"Broken"

I started this comic last winter, dealing with my first surgery after breaking my leg in high school. I've written about my broken leg before, but I wanted to explore a peculiar experience I had while recuperating. 

I thumbnailed much of the story, and tried drawing with varied materials and paper, before ultimately shelving it. I'm going to redraw it this year however, as I've found it can help me to step away from a piece for a little while.

"A Haunting" Unfinished comic

I started this comic sometime in 2012, I think. My girlfriend and I had moved into a new apartment which was seemingly haunted. Initially, only little things would be moved around, but things escalated when a spatula launched off our counter, lids flew from cabinets, impossible noises, etc. 

It may have been our anxiety manifesting itself, or maybe we met a ghost. I was also researching local haunting history at the time, so I was slowly being consumed by restless spirits. l wasn't drawing much at this time, , so I was trying to teach myself comics again from ligne-claire up.

I've returned to elements of this story in my forthcoming Frank Santoro Correspondence Course comic (hoping to finish it soon, sigh).

"C'est L'enfer"

This is an odd story I drew after visiting my girlfriend in France, as I described here:

I wanted to document my time in France in comics, but a mere comic diary would not suffice (as I suck incredibly at maintaining one, as Quincy Quarks can attest. Instead, at the height of my enthusiasm for the Walkind Dead TV show, I decided it would be funny to be stuck in France during a zombie outbreak. And so, I bought one of those reporter-oriented flip Moleskin sketchbooks, with that awful thin, bent-by-a-breeze paper, and I started drawing this comic on airplanes, tramways, hotel rooms, dorm rooms, cafés, and finally back on my art table. I think it's evident by the shift in drawings that I began spending a little more time on this. What may also be evident is that I sort of forgot about zombies existing as any kind of threat (not a coincidence that this happened when I grew bored of the walking dead show), and indulged more in the fun of having Paris to oneself and their girlfriend.

I remember drawing this excitedly in the afterglow of that trip, but ultimately felt that it'd grown unwieldily/confusing.

"Why I Stopped"

I drew this in May of 2008. As I recall, I'd taken a break from posting my comics online. I drew this for my own sanity, and I think I only shared it with a couple of people who'd emailed me, asking where I'd gone. 

Reading this comic now is very confusing; I think I was just having some cartoonist's block, and so I was throwing everything into this one long, rambling piece. Very strange to me now.

I drew this in December of 2008. I had just discovered Roy Crane, and so I was trying to reduce my linework to its most minimal.
