Hey hey, as a librarian, can I just say donβt pace yourself at the library. I get a lot of customers saying βoh I shouldnβt get too many books out at onceβ but like you should!!!! Max out your card, take everything we have on a subject youβre interested in, make a book fort in your home. We love that shit! It doesnβt matter if you read them or not; just take them for an adventure and bring them back whenever theyβre due!
For public libraries, one of the ways we secure funding year to year is lending. Governments donβt want to fund more books if theyβre not being used and the way we measure use is by issues. Regardless of whether you read it or not, whether you have it for a day or a month, if you issue it to your library card, we get the stats! It makes the library look good!
Help your local library; get books out even if you know you canβt read them all!

It's becoming clearer that sometimes when I say "use your local library" it's taken as "use a public library" and while that is definitely something you should be doing if you can, I'm usually talking about any library that's accessible to you!! Lending libraries, online libraries, school libraries, all of these are important to use as well!! If you have access to them, use them!! "Your local library" means any library that is local to you!
listening to CDs in the kitchen i always brace myself for the ad between songs but then it just keeps rolling. skipping around how i like without interruption feels heavenly. we're in such a commercial angst prison that books and CDs are luxury now π
protect, pass on, thrift, gift, and store physical media, it's worth it
Science has backed up what many of us have long been saying: the library rocks. A study from the New York Public Library surveyed 1,974 user
