Cuando era pequeña el padre le enseñó a jugar al ajedrez.
Le había llamado la atención un movimiento que recibe el nombre de enroque: El jugador cambia en una sola jugada la posición de dos figuras: pone la torre junto al rey y desplaza al rey hacia la esquina, al lado del sitio que ocupaba la torre.
Aquel movimiento le había gustado: el enemigo concentra todo su esfuerzo en amenazar al rey y éste de pronto desaparece ante sus ojos; se va a vivir a otra parte. Soñaba toda su vida con ese movimiento y soñaba con él tanto más cuanto más cansada estaba.
