        ‘ yes !   and  so  pretty .    i  used  to  pretend  i  was  a  mermaid  all  the  time  in  the  pool  when  i  was  little , ’    gigi  giggles ,    feeding  off  of  the  other  girl’s  infectious  good  mood .   ‘ that  sounds  like  a  good  plan .   buddy  system !    ----   here , ’    she  stands  up ,   and  holds  out  her  hand  for  the  other  girl  to  take .    ‘ let’s  go ! ’

damien took full note of her being nervous, and it only made him think her more adorable. “a walk sounds great,” sure he’d  have thought he and the person he was sharing a bed with would do something else first, but he was far too much of a gentleman within the first few moments of meeting someone to mention that. maybe later.

             ‘ okay . ’    simple  enough !   relax ,    gigi ,   relax .    she’s  never  been  a  smooth  talker ,   especially  not  around  someone  she’s  meant  to  be  sharing  a  bed  with .   the  thought  alone  flusters  her .    ‘  we  could  go  to  the  canteen  if  you  want ?    and  get  a  drink ?   or  just  go  along  the  beach  for  a  while .   i’ve  never  been   to  a  beach  before  this ,    so  i’ve  really  been  spending  lots  of  time  there .  -----  gosh ,    i  can  feel  myself  rambling .   i’m  so  sorry . ’

“never been to the beach before?” repeated the doctor, eyebrows knitting up in a bit of curiosity and surprise. “i’d say that isn’t dorky at all, every kid dreams of building sand castles, you’re just building yours later in life.” he found himself effortlessly teasing.

            ‘ nope ,   never , ’   she  confirms ,    slightly  embarrassed .   ‘ a  poor  kid  from  oklahoma  doesn’t  really  have  many  opportunities  to  pack  up  for  a  luxurious  vacation . ’   her  face  lights  up  a  bit  at  his  reassurance ,   and  she  gestures  for  him  to  come  with  her .    ‘  come  with  me ,    then ?    i  have  zero  architectural  skills ,   you  look  like  you  might  be  able  to  help  me  out . ’

“yeah! nice to meet you, beautiful.” he replied easily, because flirting was never a department he lacked in, now, seriousness and long term relationships, well, that was another court. “we are, i hope you don’t mind, i know i certainly don’t.”

        ‘ oh ---- ’   a  compliment ,   so  fast ,    it  takes  her  off  guard .   her  cheeks  start  to  turn  pink ,    and  she  nervously  giggles  and  stumbles  over  her  words  a  bit .   ( he’s  very  handsome .    this  is  very  embarrassing . )   ‘  you’re  sweet ,   oh  my  gosh .   i  don’t  mind  at  all .   do  you  want  ----  uhm ,   do  you  wanna  go  for  a  walk  or  something ?    and  get  to  know  each  other  a  little  bit ,   maybe ? ’

      ‘ that’s  a  good  point .   i  like  your  line  of  thinking ! ’    gigi  grins .   ‘ i’m  angelique .   but  gigi  is  fine  for  short .   it’s  nice  to  meet  you ,   cacie ! ’

With a grin, Darlene looked the other over and tried to think of some other fun ideas as well. “It’s been a while for me too, darlin’, but you know what I’ve always found to be fun? Burying each other in the sand or seeing who can swim out into the water the farthest,” she said, squealing once more. 

        ‘ oooh ,    like  ----  when  people  cover  each  other  in  sand  and  then  draw  a  mermaid  tail ? ’    excitement  sparkles  in  gigi’s  eyes  at  the  idea ,   her  face  lighting  up .    ‘ i  dunno  about  swimming  out  too  far ...   i’m  nervous  about  sharks !    and  getting  sucked  under !    but  we  can  totally  splash  around  a  bit . ’

          ‘ aw ,   man ! ’    she  giggles ,   then  tries  ( and  fails )   to  school  her  features  into  a  somber  look .    ‘ i  was  going  to  ask  if  you  wanted  to  help  me  out ....   if  you’re  as  dorky  as  i  am .    i  need  someone  to  help  me  out ,   i  got  no  architectural  skills  at  all .  people  could  be  jealous  of  both  of  us . ’

          ‘ i  grew  up  in  oklahoma .    and  we  didn’t  really  have  the  money  to  travel  a  lot .....  so  i’ve  seen  lots  of  hills !    but  no  beaches . ’     she  digs  her  toes  into  the  sand  idly ,    reveling  in  the  feeling .

Cacie looked up from her book when someone spoke, and looked up at the other woman. “Not at all.” She decided with a smile. “Do you want to make one with me? I haven’t done that in like 10 years.”

          gigi  gives  a  wide  smile ,    blue  eyes  crinkling  with  the  effort  of  it .   ‘  that  sounds  so  fun .    can  we ?   if  you’re  not  too  busy ,  i  mean .    i  don’t  want  to  interrupt  your  reading . ’
