BIOGRAPHY
tw: memory loss and homelessness
Ayla doesn’t remember her life before she was 12, it’s a blank canvas. Nothing but stretches of darkness that remain a mystery to the brunette. The first memory she can truly remember is waking up on a rain soaked pavement alone, her nightgown torn and bloody and no memory of who she was, or where she had come from. She spent weeks hidden from the streets in whatever she could find for shelter, from abandoned warehouses to dumpster bins. She found out she could shift by accident, when a rough encounter with some of the rougher life causing her fear to trigger a shift into the first thing she could think of, a fox. It allowed herself to give them the slip, and she began to try and figure out how to use her power to her advantage.
She began practicing, honing her skill. Spending a lot of time in fox form she would scout out locations and homes, shift when she felt threatened and spent a lot of time in animal form. She discovered her ability to shift into people quite accidentally, bumping into someone whilst thinking about shifting and the next minute there she was… staring at that persons face in the mirror. This new skill opened more opportunities to provide for herself, and she began to imitate people in order to con. It started small, imitating them to gain access to the phone they’d stolen in their pockets which she’d then wipe and sell. Before long, she was gaining access to homes to steal food. Never too much, never more than she needed.
Just weeks before her fifteenth birthday ( or the day she claims as her birthday ), she took on the appearance of a man she saw seemingly staggering from a ramshackle house. He was barely paying attention to her as he slammed into her, and she made a show of grabbing his hand as she “steadied” him before quickly pretending to walk away. When she thought she was alone, she broke into his home to look for food. What she hadn’t realised was that he was onto her, and he knew exactly what she was. She had screamed, in his voice, when she turned away from the fridge and saw herself standing at the entry to the kitchen, dropping the bread that had been halfway to her lips. “Not so much fun when someone does it to you, huh kid?” It was the man that she had bumped into, he was like her.
The man had taken pity on her, and after the two of them shifted back to their natural states that he explained what they were and that she had to be careful. That he originally came from a city far from here, one for people like them. So he took her there, and over the years he has trained her and in turn she gained a father figure. Not the most responsible, Ayla turned into the one that would take care of him most days. But she doesn’t mind, because of him she had a home and a city and a chance. She’s turned her life around in the past fourteen years, she managed to graduate high school at twenty and get her PI licence at twenty four. All thanks to him, so taking care of him is not something she resents.

The night had progressed slowly and he had seen a few people that he would consider regulars at this point, make a beeline to their usual spots. He slid past the other busy bartender as he wiped the counter top down before he began to start serving. Gun had been working at Blackout for a little while now, and while it wasn’t what he really wanted to be doing he knew it payed well. So for the mean time, he would be a bartender. He looked up at the stranger, “What can I get you?” he asked the patron as he threw a cloth over his shoulder.
Motherfucker. She’d lost her most recent target and shoved her camera in her bag with a growl, ducking into an alleyway to shift back to her usual form. She took another cautionary glance around before realising that her target truly was gone, and she sighed in defeat, pulling out her phone to text her tech person that she’d lost them. “I need a drink.” she muttered, dark eyes landing on the lights of Blackout on the corner. That’ll do. It wasn’t her favourite place to drink, but she equally was never picky when it came to alcohol. Leaning on the bar, she grinned at the bartender, “Whiskey, neat. Not too much ice either, don’t want you watering down that shit either.”

LOCATION: Donut Hole
WHEN: Friday, around 5pm-ish

—— Leaving the house, as hard as it was, had become some sort of therapy for Sara. She would get Woobin ready and take a walk around town, especially now, during spring when the weather was much nicer. She had stopped at the bakery, her stomach craving something sweet for days now, and she got distracted for a split second… before she could prevent it, the baby attached to her chest by the carrier was reaching for the shirt of the person in front of them and tugging on it. “Omo—” Sara was quick to take Binnie’s small hand away, but it had already been enough to catch the other’s attention. “I’m sorry… He’s in a grabby phase.” The brunette chuckled softly. “I hope we didn’t bother you?“
The woman had a soft spot for a lot of sweet things, it wasn’t something she’d had a lot of when she was homeless, and since then it had become an addiction. It was almost as if she was expecting them to be taken away from her at any moment, the idea of having a permanent home still something she half expected to lose. She was lost in the taste of the donut that she had already half stuffed in her mouth, three more in the bag in her hand as she turned around, about the dodge the woman behind her before she realised that the child was reaching for her blouse. “Yikes.” she mumbled through a fall mouth as she swatted her hand at the baby’s hand without thinking. “No, it’s okay. Just... damn little man, no one has been that forward in a while.”

OPEN STARTER △ @astoriastarter
— No specific location: outside of a building.
The nosebleeds were frequent but that didn’t mean he was less annoyed whenever he had to deal with one. He had gotten rid of one too many nice handkerchiefs now that the had resorted to carry an ordinary pack of tissues to wipe the blood. He knew there was nothing to worry about but the frequency of it had started to be noticed by colleagues and other people he spent enough time with, and that was a problem. Erik didn’t like to call too much attention to himself unless that was in the academia. He had already ruled out the regular causes like high blood pressure or a blood clotting disorder, anemia. But the bleeding came with the nightmares and neither seemed to be leaving anytime soon.
“What?” The man practically growled at the person staring back at him. He had exited out of the building in a hurry, pinching the soft part of the front of the nose as he leaned forward to make it stop, cursing through his breath as he continued to bleed.
It was just another day of chasing down people who thought they could skip out on paying her, it was partly why she had begun demanding a majority of the money upfront, knowing that people would often try and skip out. it wasn’t her fault they were sneaking around in others affairs, investigating their loved ones because they couldn’t trust them. If they felt dirty about it, that was hardly her fault.
She huffed as she stepped out onto the street, glancing both ways before she went to cross the street, but as her head turned right she caught sight of the blonde man just a few steps from her. Arching an eyebrow as she was snapped at, she merely grinned a little, the smile almost wolfish in nature as she merely shrugged before letting it slip of her features and the cool, impassive features returned.
“Was gonna offer you help, now I’ll just leave you to it.”
