This is an Octavia E. Butler tribute, and represents the idea of constrained hope which I think is an idea that comes up in some of her Sci Fi writing. If our destiny is in the stars, when we get off this planet we might finally be better out there than we ever have been in human history. We can't afford to repeat our destructive trajectory on earth, and the necessity of change will force us to take only the best with us.
