Fluff VS. Smut

I wanted to address a lot of posts I am seeing within tags, which I am sorry I will be using the same tags to say this because I think it’s important you guys read this. There’s this influx of people complaining about the lack of fluff and angst and how it seems certain fandoms are dominated by smut. Recently, there’s been a significant wave of complaints regarding the perceived scarcity of fluff and angst in our fandoms and the dominance of smut-oriented content. I understand where you’re coming from—I truly do. Personally, I don’t enjoy reading smut as much, even though I write it quite often. My preference leans toward fluff, and I empathize with the frustration many feel when searching through tags. Like trust me I get it. However, I am a writer too and I think you guys need to understand something and maybe this will help create more of a balance.

The BIGGEST factor in the fluff vs smut content is the way engagement - aka likes, reblogs, and comments, affect a writers' motivations. In the age of social media, content that garners attention often dictates what creators choose to produce. Many writers have observed that smut content tends to receive more likes and reblogs compared to fluff or angst. This disparity creates an environment where the desire for validation and visibility leads to an increase in smut writing. People can sit there all day long and say “write for you.” etc etc. But at the end of the day the reason we share the content, is to garner engagement.

It's really important to recognize that if the community wishes to see more diverse content, including fluff and angst, there's a collective responsibility of the readers to engage with those works. It’s super easy to write a few lines of smut and get 5k notes. But fluff and angst more often than not take real time and creativity. So, if fans desire a broader range of stories, it’s crucial to support those who take the time to produce them. This means liking, reblogging, and actively promoting stories in these genres.

The relationship between the types of content produced and audience reception perpetuates a cycle: if writers see that smut gets more interaction, they are incentivized to write more of it, leading to a greater abundance of adult content. So that said, if the community starts to uplift and appreciate fluff and angst stories, writers may feel encouraged to explore these genres more freely, creating an environment of diversity within fan fiction.

TLDR: If fans want to see more fluff and angst, they can influence the community by actively supporting those works and giving writers incentive to want to produce these works.

how would you know anything about the killer or the kids?? Just because the murders happened at a Taylor themed event doesn’t mean it’s about Taylor. And once again, I know it makes you uncomfortable but obsessively hate posting does contribute to massacres like this. So if you are one of the antis who talks about her every other day with hate, you have a part to play in this.

Last but not least, I do find it odd you want to claim they were not fans/swifties. Makes me think you wouldn’t care this much if you found out they were. I am sure Taylor will donated to the families. There was nothing wrong with her post and she has every right to talk about it.

I don't know how they don't understand that. Adele could literally be up there too if she released more or Rihanna or Lady Gaga. It's about quality. Having albums with high sales is more impressive than having your whole catalog with high numbers.

It's not about sales it's about impact these artists made that she has not. Music Industry would still pretty much the same if it wasn't for her (probably better).

Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Bob Marley, Prince, Stevie Wonder are their peers but they are lower on this list.

She is not better than Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Harry Styles, The Weeknd, Rihanna, Katy Perry.

And I think only america sees her being peers with the likes I mentioned above. The rest of the world and people in general who don't pay attention to charts and sales ( most people don't). Don't see her as their peer.

Maybe in success she is. But anything else? No.

Their logic that there is more competition now doesn't make sense either. Yes this might be true due to streaming that there are more options. But back then you actually needed some type of talent to be recognised. 😭 There are countless of artists that would have never made it back in the day because they don't have the it factor. Like someone like Drake would have never made it. And nobody would be listening to Jojo Siwas Karma if it wasn't for Tiktok and streaming.

Social media is a huge help to get them through the door. While Taylor Swift might have it harder in terms of competing when it comes to their logic, back in the 80's she wouldn't even have the chance to compete.

Getting famous with all the various platforms is much easier when you can promote your shit on tiktok Twitter etc and be relevant because of your antics. ( Nicki Minaj).

Also Autotune didn't exist until 1997 and that would be a huge problem for many artists aswell. lol.

I just also want to note rape/sexual abuse/sexual misconduct was - and in many places, still is - a chronic problem in psych wards. Patients, if they speak up about it, are just dismissed as crazy. Women, BIPOC and other marginalized group historically have been the most at-risk groups for these in psych wards.

I should know. I had my tits groped in one when I was 16 by an employee who then told everyone I was lying and I was trying to get attention. I was punished for this by not being allowed to see anyone else or leave my room for 48 hours.

Another thing I’d like to add: the complete and total lack of privacy, both physically and emotionally. You cannot tell anyone to look away. Anyone can see you anytime they want to. Staff can, AND DO in some cases, walk in on you in the shower and bathroom. Frequently you’re not allowed to close the door at all. When you are in a state of extreme vulnerability and being restrained, there are always many people looking at you. Constantly. The restriction of privacy in psychiatric hospitals is NOWHERE CLOSE to having your relationships being examined over twitter. Your body will be seen by people who you do not want to see it. Your most terrified and emotionally charged moments will be witnessed by complete strangers. Everything, both inside and out, is forced to become visible and you do not have a choice.

A breakthrough I had in therapy was speaking (AND BELIEVING) the sentence “I am a person even when I don’t eat.” It was when I realized I deserve dignity, compassion, and respect even when I’m sick. Psychiatric hospitals rob you of your autonomy. You don’t choose the story you can tell about yourself, because you cannot choose anything at all. There is no PR agent in the hospital for you.

The torture of a psychiatric ward is that you are stripped of your personhood as the hospital tries to remold you into something “healthy.”

The torture of a billionaire is that people are mean to her online.

Regarding to this post. America thinks they are the whole world. Same with that Superbowl thing. Nobody cares about that sport outside the US.

The Beatles were like in the 60's. That's like 60 years ago. Yet they still have a respectable amount of monthly listeners on Spotify. Sames goes for Michael Jackson, who reached his peak at the 80's.

Longevity isn't easy. It's super rare. If yiu don't have any impactful hits it's almost impossible I would say. Taylor does get many streams. But most of them are by her fans not by locals.

I also think they are pretty much exaggerating the biggest first day streams/sales or whatever. It's not that impressive if everyone is gonna forget about the album and no one is gonna listen to it. They are gassing the hell out of it. And then make it look like she is as big as them.

It took Thriller weeks to get to number one at the charts. But it still became the biggest selling album.

Also people that didn't know about snow, WWI+II, 9/11 knew who MJ was. They need to calm down with this.

I guarantee you that casuals can't name a single song from her albums after 1989.

She feels like more of an American phenomenon than a global one. Like, Michael Jackson as an American was beloved worldwide but for Taylor it’s more USAmerican media being actively pushed abroad and the proximity to American-ness and whiteness it brings makes people like her (Maybe not as much here but defo in former colonies like India, the Philippines and Brazil). Also her ‘relatable’ songs are just a tad too unrelatable for the majority of the rest of the world- even for people in the us lol

Mostly meant it as a joke but sort of? Eastern European migrants and their kids have been heavily scapegoated by UK politicians so at least from what I’ve observed tend to be more wary of the whole ‘I’ll stand for you when it benefits me but once shit hits the fan you’re on your own’ than people who consider themselves just white British. They also on average tend to be poorer because we don’t pay our key workers enough so there’s a wealth divide there too which doesn’t really fit swift’s target fanbase.

And idk at least where I am she’s not at the same level of fame or ‘coolness’ as in the US and is mostly popular with people who have the ability to consume large amounts of USAmerican media in general.

This is just from my experience though and I fit into neither of those demographics so feel free to correct me!
