These are all Japanese ripoffs! I want real Japanese things!
Recently, I went with my sister to an anime convention that gave out small boxes of Pocky and Pejoy, which for those who don’t know, are little sticks coated in chocolate, or whatever flavour the box is, and Pejoy is Glice’s spinoff where the flavour is inside the stick. As my sister and I wandered around, we met up with one of her other friends, whom I had never met before. I was snacking on one of the Pocky boxes and the boy whom I’d never met before smacked it out of my hands, before proceeding to grab it and shout, “THIS IS A RIP-OFF OF JAPANESE FOOD! HOW DARE YOU EAT IT AT THIS CONVENTION!” Of course, I was slightly pissed off because I had just opened the box and we’d decided that we didn’t have enough money for snacks. In the short five minutes that my sister tried to introduce us, it became apparently obvious that she actually was not friends with him and that we had instead met up with the wrong person. We then proceeded to skirt around him and find him. Until he started following my sister and complimenting her cosplay and touching her. We tried to stop in a convention hall and lose him, but he continued to ramble on about how Japan was full of “authentic, real, legitimate food”, whatever that means to him. We stopped to quickly grab a plushie for our even younger sister’s birthday, and he attempted to steal it and rip it apart because it wasn’t “Japanese enough.” (How he kept up with us, I have no idea.) At that point, I lost it and just grabbed my sister’s arm and threatened to kick him in the balls if he kept following us.
Note: About 30-45 minutes later, as we were getting ready to leave for a cosplay shoot, we found the boy again, next to an overturned table of “rip off Japanese food.” This time, however, he was getting kicked out.
