The Big Reveal
“I can’t say no to my mom.” Grant’s nose scrunched up at the mere suggestion. He was a self proclaimed and glorified mama’s boy, so even if he did say no to his mom she would simply ignore him. He had absolutely no authority, especially when it came to his mother’s very first grandchild. “But you can. She’ll take you seriously and won’t hold it against you. You are the mom, after all, so you call all the shots.” Grant said as he rested his hand on Anna’s stomach.
Grant took Anna’s teases with a crooked grin on his face, far too content with the morning to fuss back. “You’re lucky that you have a boyfriend who doesn’t slobber all over you with morning breath.” He said, pressing another kiss to her lips afterwards as emphasis. “Plus I’m excited to get the day started. We’re going to find out if our kid has a hole or a pole, babe. Do you know how major that is? It means we can start looking at names and nursery colors and clothes and everything.” Grant was basically humming with excitement. This was a huge milestone in Anna’s pregnancy and the fact that it was finally here was insane.
“I’d drop down first and easily catch you. Nothing’s gonna happen to you or Nonnie while I’m around.” It was a promise. “But I get it, no tuck and rolling out of the window.” Grant laughed a little at his girlfriend’s optimism when it came to his little sister. She had seen some of the evil darkness that permeated the girl’s heart but Anna had obviously not been exposed to some of the atrocities that Grant had over the course of his childhood. “Ella wants for nothing except my pain and suffering. And since you’re with me now, she probably wants yours too. I’ll give her some money though, I guess. That should shut her up long enough for us to get out the door.” Grant didn’t like the idea of handing over fifty bucks to his kid sister but he knew she could probably ask for more and he’d have to cough it up. “If we keep it a surprise than we won’t hear the end of it from my mom. It’s better on us both if we just stop and get some ‘It’s a whatever-it’s-gonna-be’ balloons and give ‘em to her.”
Anna sighed, knowing that she’d likely have to be the one to break the terrible new to Grant’s mom. He was right, though - Even though Mrs. Fairfield was Grant’s mom, Anna was the mom of this baby and whatever she and Grant say goes (even if Grant didn’t have the balls to say it). “Fine, I’ll tell her,” she said with a slight frown. “I’ll be the bad guy,” Anna added, knowing that she’d likely be the bad guy many, many times over the years, considering Grant would no doubt be the “fun parent”. And God forbid if the baby was a girl, because she’d have Grant wrapped around her finger in no time at all, and he’d probably never be able to say no to her.
“Mm, I suppose. It is very considerate of you, I must admit,” Anna admitted, giving Grant another kiss. She couldn’t help but grin as he explained just how important today was, because it only showed how excited for it all he was. Though she could do without one thing: “Can’t you say something normal, like finding out if our kid is a boy or a girl instead of saying a hole or a pole?” she laughed, rolling her eyes at him a bit. “I honestly can’t wait to start thinking of names and being able to really buy things... We also have to find a place for said nursery to actually be in, but we’ll figure it out,” Anna grinned, placing her own hand on top of Grant’s.
“Well before we worry about paying your sister off, we’ll try and just tell her he want to do this alone. I mean, I’ll try to tell her we want to do this alone,” she teased, but it was the truth. “We’ll make it up to her by coming up with some adorable way to tell her what we’re having, maybe we can kick her out of the kitchen long enough to make a cake or something?” Anna suggested before she stretched. “I guess we should get dressed, our appointment’s at nine-thirty,” she said. It was early, but they’d opted for an early appointment after knowing there’s no way they’d be able to go the whole day waiting and waiting for the appointment.
