i made so many newgen posts on my old account and so many theories😭😭😭😭😭 i’m HURT😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 i even have some drafts i was planning on posting regarding newgen😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 i will not stand for this i WILL convince u (long ahh response coming im so sorry can u tell im very passionate about this)

jlb has BEEN wanting to do a new gen since like forever (well, like 2019). this is from her tumblr

her Instagram basically confirms it for me. this novella feels like she’s just tying up loose ends that twelve didn’t cover. twelve was more of a setup for the new generation. she didnt feel fully finished with the ogs yet &this one seems like it’s meant to focus specifically on them and show how they’re dealing with everything post bad blood. (and yes i knowww there’s stuff with striggs and their relationship and scarlett blah blah blah , but idgaf about their story that much sorry)

like lookie here!! she literally says she wrote the twelve novella with the intention of coming back to the naturals universe later, when the OGs were adults, and shifting the focus to the new gen. that pretty much proves twelve was always meant to center the new generation, that’s been the plan from the start. because why else would she write a whole novella (twelve) that’s majority about kids with natural abilities and recruiting more of them, instead of focusing on the ogs’ lives? hmmm riddle me that batman!!!!!! anyway my point is: dangerous impulses feels like something she wrote just to tie up loose ends that the original books didn’t fully resolve. and once she’s done with this novella, it seems like she’s moving on to the new gen for good. she wouldn’t feel like she still needs to tie up some loose ends and clarify anything about the ogs anymore. she would finally wrap up the ogs and their stories.

as bittersweet as it is, it’s probably for the best, because if she kept focusing on the ogs at this point, it would start to feel like she’s milking it 😭 like dragging out their story just for the sake of it, even though their arcs are already wrapped up and there’s not much left to explore without it feeling repetitive or forced. as much as i love them, their story is done 💔 (the only exception is lia’s background…like PLEASE Dangerous Impulses better give us that 🤬 but anyway )

OKAY NOW TIME FOR ME TO CONVINCE WHY WHY NEWGENS WOULD BE AWESOME (and some of my theories)

- the characters i think (more like know) we r gonna see is :

- mackenzie (duh) (prob gonna be the main character and the ‘cassie’ of the newgens, meaning that it’s gonna be from her pov),

- the two brothers from texas who randomly went off grid (i strongly believe these mf are gonna have some SERIOUS parental/family issues and unfortunately there’s going to be a love triangle between mackenzie and them i mean we all know how much she lovessss love triangles 😩 but just remember which ever brother the main character meets first, he isn't gonna be the one who's endgame!!!!!!! jlb does that a lot. ALSO CALLING IT NOW that one brother is gonna be the sarcastic one who uses humor as a coping mechanism and one who's all serious and broody #jlbiseeyou....

- laurel (i'm like 87% sure.... i think? #hypothesising...... that she was 9 in twelve???? if im right there might be a slight age gap with the rest of the naturals but #itsokshesdababy (and she’s gonna remind me a lot of lia probably 🥹💔)

- and plus two more characters. jlb confirmed this on her tumblr. but she didn’t say anything else about them. also i have a theory that one of these characters are prob gonna be laurels age.

also did u notice that this time the naturals are an even number? jlb clearly likes pairing her characters off. in the original series, everyone had someone except sloane, which is probably why she introduced Celine in the final book, she didn’t want sloane to end up alone and that’s why i think one of the two mystery characters might be around laurel’s age yk to keep that balance. ig feels like jlb learned from the original series and wouldn’t want to leave anyone without a romantic counterpart this time. YES i know that not every character needs a relationship but jlb does seem to enjoy writing them and giving her characters love interests so 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ & we might even get some new dynamics, especially since there’ll be six Naturals across ALL the books and not just one book!!!!! im just hoping for more wlw couples #yuri 🥹🏳️‍🌈👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩

- we're gonna see the og naturals as mentors IMAGINE THEM WITH SOME NAUGHTY AHH TEENAGERS BRU like imagine there’s also another emotion reader just IMAGINE how annoyed michael would be that someone else can read his emotions

ELLA THIS PART IS SPECIFICALLY HERE FOR YOU I NEED U CONVINVED OK: my ella bella stella hella(-cool) i know you love tig/tgg, and yurrr okay i get it like the writing was insanely detailed, especially when it came to physical descriptions, backstories and allat. BUT if we’re getting a new gen of the naturals i genuinely think we’re about to get that same level of detail [if not wayyy more]. jlbs writing has improved so much since the last naturals book. like there’s a clear difference in how she handles character depth & pacing &&&&&& especially the psychological elements. and she’s basically sorta been planning this new generation since around 2019…. so like that is YEARS of ideas, refining concepts, and really figuring out what she wants to do with these characters 🙏🙏 and dat sorta planning usually shows up in stronger and more layered storytelling!!!! PLUSSS she’s literally said before that when she writes the Naturals books, she spends a lot of time on the psychology and each character’s natural ability, how they think, how they observe, how their minds work. If she’s leaning into that even more this time, that means we’re not just getting surface level traits but instead we’re gonna get very deeply thought out characters. and lemme tell u when an author is that invested in the mind of a character, it usually carries over into everything else too like their backstory, their physical presence, their personality, the way they’re described, the way they interact with others ETC ETCCC,,!,!,!,! i mean not to sound too biased but we r probably gonna get richer descriptions and more intentional character design, and wayyyy more layered and detailed backstories. in the old books so much of some characters’ backstories was left out (cough cough lia). but with better planning + more writing experience, the mysteries and puzzles are def gonna be cooler smarter more immersive more detailed more interesting MORE EVERYTHINY UGHHH i really feel like this could go beyond tig & tgg level writing. YEA i gen believe its gonna have more depth, stronger characterisation, more intricate mysteries… it has everything going for it. just trust the vision for a second PLS 😭 it’s actually got the potential to be so PEAK pls jlb dont mess this awp

also something extra i wanna add. mackenzie is the FIRST girl who’s gonna join, she’s going to join 3 years post the novella twelve. but the books aren’t going to start there, it’s going to start when they find the brothers (i think that the brothers are going to be the last to join the program). i’m guessing the find the brothers 2 years after mackenzie joins, so mackenzie will be 17 just like the ogs when their books started.
