Advert for the Colt AR-15 rifle from the mid 1980's. Before the tactical craze of today.
Traditional American rifle maker Henry continues to update and modernize its offerings with a semi-auto carbine in 9mm Luger and a unique brass & steel-framed six-shot revolver in 357 S&W magnum. At around $1k neither are cheap but should get by for a while just on Henry's reputation for craftsmanship & quality.

This picture shows most of the pistols designed by John Moses Browning (1855 - 1926) over his lifetime. The Browning HP 9mm pistol was started by Browning but he died before it was completed. The top pistol in this picture is the original version of what evolved into the Colt 1911 Government Model the sidearm of the US armed forces from 1911 until 1986.
Theodore Roosevelt's S&W Model 3 Revolver
"Former President Theodore Roosevelt’s gun sold for a nearly one million dollars this past December [2022] at an auction at Rock Island Auction company, the company said in a statement.
The gun, a Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 revolver dating to the late 1890s, sold for $910,625."
And...
"Though the revolver — fitted to fire .38 Long Colt caliber rounds, the U.S. service cartridge at the time, — was meant to be used in the Spanish-American War, Roosevelt famously used a Colt double-action revolver salvaged from the wreckage of the USS Maine, the U.S. Navy ship that sank in Havana Harbor in February 1898. The destruction of the Maine is credited with starting the war, though what ultimately sunk the ship is still debated.
Roosevelt reportedly kept the Smith & Wesson firearm as a 'nightstand pistol' until the last years of his life. His wife Edith passed on the gun to James E. Amos, the bodyguard and valet of the former president, after he passed."

Some how the IRA got a huge amount AR180 rifles to arm themselves with. A mystery to be sure.
Eleanor Roosevelt wife of US President Franklin D. Roosevelt & First Lady of the US (1933-1945) declined Secret Service protection and instead obtained a CPL and often carried this 22 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver in her handbag.
