The Year’s Best Ideas to Reinvent, Reanimate & Reclaim Our Future
A best-of-the-year anthology, What Future collects long-form journalism and essay writing that address a wide range of topics crucial to our future, from environmental and political, to human health and animal rights, to technology and the economy. What Future is committed to a variety of diverse perspectives; and will include new writing by and about the scientists, writers, journalists, and philosophers who are proposing the options that lay not just ahead, but beyond. The 2017 edition will be published in October of 2017.
About the Series Editors:
Torie Bosch is the editor of Future Tense, a project of Slate, New America, and Arizona State that looks at the implications of new technologies.
Roy Scranton is the author of the novel War Porn (Soho Press, 2016) and the philosophical essay Learning to Die in the Anthropocene (City Lights, 2015). He is also one of the editors of Fire and Forget: Short Stories from the Long War (Da Capo, 2013).

We are seeking a varied collection of articles, essays, other forms of journalism (including profiles of thought leaders and scientists), and creative non-fiction published during the calendar year of 2016. We are primarily interested in long form, in-depth pieces that consider a given topic carefully.
The original publication of the article must be in a nationally distributed North American publication (i.e., periodicals, collections, or anthologies, in print, online, or ebook form);
The article/essay must be written in English and written by a writer who has made North America his or her home;
Transcripts of audio pieces (podcasts, etc) are permitted;
The form of the article/essay as submitted and published should be its original intent (e.g., no excerpts!);
There are no word length restrictions, though we are primarily seeking long-form essays of between 5000 and 10,000 words;
The article must be an original work of the author and published by someone else apart from the author (e.g., it cannot be self-published);
The article must have been originally published between January 1 and December 31 of the eligibility
The Unnamed Press publishes literature from around the world.
