I am the howl human beings shudder When they fall prey to my creatures. I am the haunting they have forgotten When they take from my forest And leave no offerings for my creatures they sacrificed. I am the mysterious plague That wreaks human families apart As they blame a god above for their suffering. But little do they know that it was me, Artemis, Seeking vengeance for defiling my virgin woods.

More Samhain Activities for the Solitary

Before I go off to bed from a long day of work and studying, here are some several more ideas for the solitary to do on Samhain:

Watch the sunrise/sunset on Samhain and light some incense to enjoy.

Fall cleaning! This is a good time to get rid of things you don’t want. Perhaps it’s time to remove the accumulated cat fur on your kitty’s tower.

Honor your patron deity’s dark aspect such as giving them offerings. Are they also related to death or the past? Do a bit more research on them. For example, my patron Goddess is Artemis. I’m planning to make elaphos cakes which are stag-shaped cakes with honey and sesame seeds. They were traditionally offered to Artemis during Elaphebolia to honor Artemis the Deer Shooter. Because Artemis is also the Goddess of the Hunt, she is also associated with death.

Contemplate death. What do you believe after death?

After Samhain, it will be Yule/winter solstice very soon. This isn’t a bad time to start getting ready for the winter.
