so pretty!
In June 2012, I made a visit to Punchpress in Austin, Texas. What a cool studio! Meredith and her husband, Bill share the space. They were very interesting, and friendly just like the rest of the people I met in Austin! I was able to print a few more of my prints there, and also visited around the city. Along with letterpress, Meredith also makes limited edition artist books - she finished the "Big Book of Unfairness" while I was there. I would totally go back and visit Austin - what a great city!

A little visit to the Petit Musee de l'Impression in Old Montreal....
To finish my collection of 50 Letterpress prints for my show coming up June 7, I made my way to the Petit Musee de L'Impression in Old Montreal. Their collection of wood and lead type spans over three floors, where they have several newer and old presses, and many, many drawers of type. It was nice to find several fonts that I have not seen yet... I particularly like the type I used to make "Your Voice is like Music", and "Your Face is Poetry", but spent quite a bit of time cleaning out the old ink that was stuck in the groves of all the letters. I was also happy to have enough characters to make "I never thought I would be so happy to find someone like you"... just enough "o"s to make all of the words... could not be more perfect!
Along with their vast collection of type, you can also educate yourself on the presses that were used, and read about the museums history, and the history of print in montreal. I also visited their store section where you can purchase some letterpress prints, and other print-related materials and books. They also had a variety of letterpress prints which were made by Glenn Goluska and the UQAM Design students. They revealed a bit of quebec's print history, each typeset in a unique manner using red and black inks.

While in Florence for work, I decided to find a place to make a few more letter-press prints. I was able to reserve a Saroglio Manifesto Poster Press at the Arti Visive in School of Fine Arts in Florence. These Italian presses are from Turin and print in a 70x100 cm. format. I wish I was able to print larger format while I was there... but I would not have been able to fit them in my suitcase! I managed to print "You make me feel like Dancing", as well as "Ciao Bella" while I was there for the day. (...with the help from Melania and Charles who helped me with the clean up and putting away all the type - Grazie Mille!) Photos 1-4: Photo by Charles Loverme.
