Leaving my 5+ year Tumblr posing hiatus to discuss my Heated Rivalry fic idea--documentary of the Centaurs with Shane's first year.
I'm inspired by the canon ESPN doc Shane and Ilya did (everyone forgets this!! I think there is so much potential to discuss with the doc), America's Sweethearts (follows the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders through training camp all the way through the season), and Hard Knocks (follows a new NFL team every year).
Both of the real-life examples find storylines for specific players (Reece had heavy screen time in S1 of America's Sweethearts, Chandi did in S2).
Potential storylines I would love to expolore:
-Hollanov on the same team (Shane losing the C and potentially falling back to the second line, etc.)
-Ilya and Luca's mentor-mentee relationship
-Harris's and other staff's influence on the team, and how having that positive player-staff relationship fosters a good work environment
-How the "winners' mentality" turned the Centaurs around after Plane Incident
-Bood's BBQ being a fundamental part of Team Vibes
-Troy being reformed (imagine a Troy interview about his friendship with Dallas Kent, showing a clip of Dallas screaming that Troy was his friend while Troy says how Dallas is a POS/wished he never met him?? Opening up about his dad?? Chills).
-Following each character through daily lives
-Other arcs for other characters!
While this all could be a fic on its own, the documentary formatting is what intrigues me enough to consider writing. I think I would write it like how socmed fics describe videos, rather than a typical narrative.
EX: Barrett pauses, looking over at Drover before blinking quickly and looking back at the camera. "Dallas was never a true friend, in hindsight [....].
Barret picks at his hands, not looking at the lens. "I have a lot of regrets. But calling Kent out? Ending up here? Never. [....].
More of an omniscient POV, rather than a certain character explaining their side of the story. The reader will "watch" the doc.
I also would do chapter-per-episode, with social media reactions in between episodes. Hark Knocks releases weekly episodes throughout the season, and that intrigues me more than dropping an entire season after it's over like America's Sweethearts does.
I don't know, this is all just a brain mush of some half-ideas I've formed! If anybody wants to share their ideas, I'm very open to hearing them and expanding them into a true fic! I haven't written much besides this Tumblr post, so I don't even know if I can write or if it would be interesting/fun.
