Addie’s head jerked up at the voice and she spun around, frowning until she realized it was Annis - and that her potions notes had dropped. “Oh, thanks! I’d be even worse off if I lost that than I usually am in potions.” Grinning, she took the parchment back. “I don’t think Slughorn likes me much, so I’m not brave enough to go to him for help and Lily’s been really busy.”

Annis couldn’t help but smile a bit, amused. “I’m pretty sure Slughorn doesn’t like anyone who’s not apart of the Slugclub he has, so I wouldn’t worry to much.” She told her reassuringly. It was something that she’d learned to come to terms with a few years ago when she realized that kissing-up to the man wasn’t nearly enough to get on his good side. “I’m not to bad at potions though if you really need help.” Potions was, surprisingly, one of her better subjects. Though that didn’t say much when she wasn’t particularly great at any subject.

Ophelia nearly grabbed Annis’s hand again, but decided not to push her luck. Annis seemed a bit shy and it was cute, so Ophelia didn’t mind waiting longer until the other girl was more comfortable. “Well, I won’t let you fall or anything,” she said with another easy smile, propping her legs up on the row below them. “And now no one can hear our conversation.” She let the silence hang for a minute as she watched the Quidditch practice curiously - having not been to many games, she didn’t know what she was looking at, really. It was impressive though, to her untrained eye. “So this is what you do for fun? Come and watch Quidditch practice?”

Annis focused on calming herself down as she took her seat, barely even taking note as to how high up the two of them really were. Though it was nothing compared to everyone actually flying around. “Well that’s good.” She said bashfully before taking a moment to wave at Alice who had caught her eye. She almost forgot that’d she’d originally gone to the practice for Alice. Though she was sure the other girl would understand and demand to hear everything about her current interaction with Ophelia later on. “Uh- yeah basically. I mean it’s really cool watching because you see them improve a lot more. Like when Alice was finally about to do the starfish and stick move!”

WHERE: The Great Hall  WHEN: Lunchtime, March 20th

Flo placed a hand on her back, and another on her stomach. The recent news had shocked her, though she should have seen it coming, what with the lack of protection she and Amos had used. She assumed that her belly would start growing soon - but Flo had plans for this year, and it would be difficult to follow through with a baby developing inside her. She figured, she had to get started right away. Flo clambered up onto the long table, those sitting beside her staring up at her, aghast. “Sonorus,” she tapped the side of her mouth with her wand. “HOGWARTS - I HAVE DECIDED TO CREATE A QUIDDITCH DANCE TEAM TO UPLIFT OUR SPIRITS! PLEASE COME FIND ME IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO AUDITION.” She patted the sides of her skirt and stepped off the table, sitting back down. 

Annis was surprised when Flo stood on top of the table, taking notice of it almost immediately since they were only a few feet apart from one another. Though it wasn’t like the girls had actually been sitting together. Though what the other girl said did catch her interest. Annis loved Quidditch, even though she wasn’t able to actually partake in the sport. Maybe being on the dance team was exactly what she needed. Though that was assuming she even made it on the team. “U-Um Flo? When would auditions be? Just out of curiosity.”

“Hey!” Annis called out rather loudly in an attempt to grab the attention of the person in front of her. “I-I think you dropped this.” She said much quieter, embarrassed by just how loud she’d previously been. Her arm was stretched out in front of her, a piece of parchment in her hands.

This conversation had completely turned around from the beginning. Ophelia couldn’t even remember how or why she had been so annoyed in the first place. “Never? Wow, I’m impressed. I certainly don’t have such a clean record. Maybe you can help reform me.” Winking, she nodded and continued on up the bleachers towards the top, which gave them a bit more privacy for their conversation. “Is this good?” Arriving at the top, she turned and held her hand out for Annis.

Annis was about to say how she was the exact opposite of impressive. The only reason why she’d never been in trouble before was because she always followed the rules. The simple idea of breaking any of them scared her. Instead she froze in her spot, her mouth hanging open like a gaping fish. Had Ophelia... Winked at her? She had surpassed the point of her face being red with embarrassment. “Oh um- well..” Was all she managed to stutter out before the other girl had continued up the bleachers without her. Leaving her to stare at the hand that had been offered to help her. All she could do was nod before taking the hand, stepping up to be beside her. “T-Thank you.” She stuttered out, a nervous smile on her lips as she slowly dropped her hand from the other girls grasp. “This is fine.”

“I understand they have a stressful job and being grumpy goes with it, but you’d think they could try a little harder. We’re not criminals.” Although Ophelia was well aware that there were probably students who could be considered criminals, it wasn’t the majority of the student body. But then a lot of the Aurors had been here for months so maybe it was understandable of them. She glanced at Annis curiously. “Why are you so nervous about getting in trouble? I’ve never had that problem.” Of course, her experience was very different from a lot of her classmates’, when it came to authority figures. Still, she knew her dad and Marianne would appreciate it if she cared more about the consequences of her actions. “The rules are mostly stupid,” she muttered, glancing at the bleachers as they got closer. “Where do you want to sit?”

Annis nodded, agreeing completely with the girl. Most people who went to the school were fairly innocent- victims if anything. And yet they were all locked up and trapped. Though she was sure that she’d heard something about it being ‘for their safety’. “Well I’ve uh- never gotten in trouble before?” The words came out as more of a question. She was sure that her face was bright red, embarrassed to be admitting the fact. As if her following the rules all the time just showed how boring and average she found her life to be. Which was odd considering she was a witch who could use magic. “I usually sit in the middle, but I wouldn’t mind sitting further up?”

Ophelia smiled at the ready agreement; the day had taken an unexpected turn but she didn’t mind it in the slightest. She’d almost forgotten what it was like to have friends. Really, it hadn’t been that long since everything had changed but since her life had changed so thoroughly, she thought she could be forgiven for the exaggeration. “I think the Aurors can find a reason to yell about anything,” she said, rolling her eyes. “They have with me, anyway. I’m not very good at just following their rules though. I suppose you probably don’t get on their bad side very much.”

Annis couldn’t help but giggle in agreement to the girls statement. “Yes well, a lot of them are pretty grumpy.” She commented. The walk to the bleachers was pretty short, which made her thankful to the fact that they would be sitting together. Really she was thankful for any sort of company. “I don’t, but that’s only because I’m more nervous about getting in trouble then not bothering to follow their stupid rules. Which is what most of them are- stupid I mean.” The Hufflepuff teetered off, wondering if it appeared like she was trying to hard. A desperate need to impress the girl before her, or at least appear mildly interesting.

It had been quite a bit of time since she had last played with some prey. Her eyes catching sight upon a lone first year within the corridor, Alecto’s eyes lit up as she stalked towards them, a coy smirk upon her lips as she tilted her head to ask sweetly, “Didn’t your older years teach you to never be alone, little firstie?”

By no means was Annis brave. She had a hard time standing up for herself, yet alone someone else. “H-Hey!” She called out shakily to get the other girls attention. “Why don’t you leave them alone? They’re just kids.”

There was something just … cute about Annis, and Ophelia wasn’t sure how she’d missed it before. Although considering the fact that she didn’t really talk to people now, that probably explained a lot. Either way, she was enjoying this conversation far more than she would have anticipated, maybe even enough to postpone the work she meant to do. “Avoiding injury is always a good practice,” she said in a tone that was a lot friendlier than it had been before. “And I wouldn’t have thought the bleachers but that’s probably safe.” Under would be nice too but … “You could come sit with me,” she added in a casual tone, half-turning to walk in that direction. “Then you get to watch and I have company, and the Aurors will be even less likely to question me.”

Annis couldn’t help but chuckle at her remark, happy that Ophelia seemed to be warming up to her. Originally she’d worried that the girl would be cold and distant, put-off by her for whatever reason. Now she was able to relax, which was good since she was a little caught off guard at the other girls suggestion. When she had given her suggestions she’d hardly expected to be invited to join her. Even though she seemed to suggest that it was simply to ward off aurors the Hufflepuff couldn’t help but hope it was for something else. Nothing to much, maybe just the possibility of having another friend although she would be a very pretty friend. “Alright,” She smiled, moving so that she could walk next to her. “I’ll try my best not to bother you with any side-commentary.”

“I don’t like heights,” Ophelia said by way of explanation. “Watching people fly makes me queasy. I don’t come to the games. And I’m really bad at flying.” SHe smiled, trying to seem less grumpy. It had been a long time since she’d made friends outside her house - even inside her house, really. She was out of practice. “No, I was looking for somewhere to read that was outside but where the Aurors won’t chase me back to the castle. Apparently going to close to the forest three times makes you a target.”

She felt almost relieved by the girls statement. Most people thought she was weird when she said that she was scared of flying. While heights in general didn’t bother her, she wondered if this girl might possibly understand what she felt about it. “I-I’m not good at flying either! That’s why I’d rather just watch. Less chance of hurting myself.” Looking down for a moment, she attempted to temporarily hide the embarrassment on her face behind her hair as it fell around her. Barely even a moment had passed before Annis was tucking her hair behind her ear, biting her lip nervously with a small smile on her face. “You could try the bleachers? Or even under them. I’m sure that could get you at least a few moments to yourself. I’m not even sure the Aurors could try and yell at you for either one of those.”

Ophelia didn’t really care about Quidditch; she wasn’t great on a broom herself, so she had very little interest in watching other people fly around. Even when Slytherin played, she preferred to be in the common room or library rather than watching the game. Her proximity to the pitch today was entirely accidental, as she had planned to find a spot on the grounds that the Aurors wouldn’t chase her off of. She turned at the question, biting back the thoughtless response; Marianne was always saying that Ophelia needed to be more approachable and Ophelia adored her stepmother. “I suppose it is,” she said instead, attempting a casual tone. “I don’t really watch the game so I can’t compare them to anything.”

Having a conversation with someone she didn’t already know, with no friend around to currently help, was definitely something outside of her comfort zone. That didn’t mean she wasn’t willing to try though. Even though she wasn’t exactly sure how it was going to go as she had a habit of either talking way to much or barely at all. Both thing seemed to make people not want to talk to her all that often. “I love watching them fly, even when there isn’t a game.” Annis stopped herself from gushing about it and embarrassing herself. The last thing she wanted to do was talk to much and mention how she herself couldn’t even fly. Though that was her own fault. “I’m guessing you’re not here to watch them fly around then?”

She always found it so cool how quidditch players will work out, even right after they’ve just won a game. Annis had meant to accompany Alice to the Quidditch Pitch, as she wanted to go over some drills. She didn’t truly understand why she did, as she’d played so well just the day before. But she wasn’t about to just give up a chance to watch her friend, and keep her company when she needed a quick break. She was running a bit late when it came to meeting her though, having stopped to go the the bathroom on her way. She hadn’t even made it to the stands yet when she ended up next to someone. “Isn’t it so cool how good they all are?” Annis smiled as she looked up, already being able to see a few people flying around.

WHO: Emmeline Vance & anyone  WHERE: The Great Hall WHEN: Right after the Quidditch match, on Saturday, March 11th

With a red-and-gold top hat on her head, Emmeline pouted at the Gryffindor table. She had not bothered to stick around after the match – it was bloody and the other Gryffindors around her were annoyed. Instead, she had made her way to the kitchens to grab a bowl of oatmeal before heading to bed. Emmeline wasn’t in the mood for celebrating, and she hadn’t eaten all day due to pre-game festivities. Grouchy was an understatement for how she was feeling. Her spoon clanged against the porcelain bowl as she felt a light touch on her arm. Without looking up, Emmeline groaned. “Are you here to pour some liquor in my oatmeal? I’m not interested, if you’re not.”

Annis couldn’t help but feel a bit of sympathy for the Gryffindors. Surely it must be upsetting to lose by such a large amount, even though they’d caught the snitch. She was a little surprised to see someone else in the Great Hall. The only reason why she made her way over to the girl was to try and be nice, “Oh! I don’t have any on me, sorry.” She furrowed her brows, her voice quiet even though there was no one else around to overhear them. “I might know where you can get some though?” She offered, knowing that Hufflepuff House was in full party mode. It was all a bit much for her, though she would definitely pop her head in to say congratulations to her friends on the team.
