âLumine is tiredâ
âHey Traveler!â
âHey you, can you give us a hand?â
âOh itâs the Honorary Knight! Mind helping us?â
âTraveler!â âHey over here!â âCan you drop this off for me?â âCan you clean up?â âCan you-â âHelp us wi-â âI need-â
âYou didnât do it correctly!â A man waved his finger in Lumineâs face, âI am docking your pay.â
âSir, I did what you told me to, I-â He stomped his foot to cut her off.
âNo! You did it wrong,â he handed her over a few Mora, obviously not his original payment being it would barely be enough to buy her a Sweet Madame, âbe lucky I even hire you again.â Lumine just stared at the few pieces of Mora. With her dignity less intact, the walk back to Mondstadt was a long one with more people asking for her help. She dragged herself through the gates when she was stopped by a familiar Harbinger.
âHey girlie, why the long face?â He plucked a lone leaf from her hair.
âChilde, please, I donât have time for you right now, I have some stuff to do.â He watched as she pulled out a list. His eyes wandered all over her tattered dress, dirt on her arms, her hair was a mess, and her eyes looked dull. He felt a slight tug in his heart looking at her. The always refined, full of energy Traveler looked beaten and not by the honors of combat.
âHey,â he said quietly, âI actually want to hire you.â
âChilde I already have a lot on my pl-â
âI will pay you everything times more. I really need you for this, will you take it?â She thought for a moment before ultimately agreeing, âI am glad. Here is the rendezvous.â He handed her a slip of paper, the Goth Grand Hotel. She didnât know what he was up to, but she didnât have time to question it, waving him bye to finish up her other commissions.
It was midnight by the time that she finally finished, she examined the paper that Childe had given her earlier. Flipping the paper over told her which room that he was in, and of course it was at the very top of the hotel. She grimaced over the sick joke that Childe was pulling, having her climb up several flights of steps after she had just worked her ass off all day. When she finally reached the room she squeaked when she had to lift her arm up to knock on the door, but before she could the door had swung open, startling her. She hesitantly stepped in, completely in shock over the decor. Lumine always knew that Childe liked the finer things in life, but this was amazing. âI am glad you could make it,â she turned on her heels to see Childe closing the door. âGlad you came, comrade,â her amazement instantly faded into annoyance.
âWas that some sick joke making me climb those stairs?â Lumine crumpled the paper and tossed it at his chest, Childe stared dumbfounded at her, until it finally clicked. He completely forgot about the steps, he opened his mouth to apologize, but she stopped him by holding up her hand. âForget it. What is the job?â He walked up to her, now inches away from her, âdonât tell me that you want to spar, Childe I am in no mood.â
He could hear the tiredness radiating from her voice, he noticed the small shakes, she had to be in a lot of pain. âNo, I want you to relax,â he raised a hand, âI will pay you, after you are well rested,â his hand rested against her cheek making her flinch slightly. Seeing his warming smile, a blush crept across her cheek. Sleep did sound nice, but she had more work to be done. She had to help. She had toâ Lumine fell against Childeâs chest and began to sob silently. She was so damn tired. She felt as if she had to help everyone but no one would do anything in return. Childe held her close, stroking her back lovingly, he wanted her to know that it was ok to be vulnerable. He wanted her to know that crying didnât make her weak, it made her so much stronger than she could ever think. âI know you are tired, Lumine,â she looked up at him with tear stained eyes. âPlease rest, catch your strength,â he wiped a tear away with his thumb, âmore than just this world needs you. I need you,â she gave him a faint smile, âI need that smile,â he cupped her chin, âI need your laughter, the warmth of your eyes, and I need you to still kick my ass,â she began to laugh. âI also need you to find your brother,â she paused, âso please, rest, rest with me.â Lumine looked off to the side before looking back at Childe.
âOnly for a few hours,â she held up three fingers, it was a start.
âThree sounds perfect,â Childe sat down on the couch while Lumine sat next to him. After a few minutes of talking Lumine was leaning against him, her hands in her laps. After a few more she became more comfortable, leaning against his chest. After an hour Childe wrapped one arm around her while he held her hand with his free hand. Childe felt like he was in heaven from how comfortable she was.
He adjusted her carefully so that she was now laying on top of her, she snuggled her face in his chest. The Harbinger began to stroke her hair softly, he couldnât help but place a kiss at the top of her head. He hated sharing his star with the world, but even the world never got to see their star like he got to see her. âGood night, Starlight.â
Once the three hours and then some were up, Lumine woke up to a warm soft breath on her face. She looked up, and smiled seeing how peaceful Childe looked. She had to admit he was actually pretty cute when he wasn't a battle hungry ruffian. âThank you,â Lumine leaned forward and pressed a small kiss on the corner of his mouth. She gathered the payment that Childe had sitting out before she noticed a small note underneath it.
âLeaving so soon?â
She rolled her eyes with a giggle, even on paper how could he be so smug? She folded the paper up and stuffed it in her pocket before leaving. She supposed her little rest wasnât so bad.
âGood Huntingâ
// tw: Blood, Violence, Kidnapping
The smell is hard to get familiar with. The amount of blood that stained all throughout the house was something that could never be erased. It was the 6th murder in less than a month, and there was no signs of stopping. The blondeâs eyes scanned the area to be sure every detail was recorded for further research.
âBlue hair, olive colored eyes, her name is Eula Lawrence,â Aetherâs partner, Childe, handed him the file of the victim. âShe has zero ties that I am aware of to any of the other victims. In fact, she was pretty alone because of her ties with the Lawrence familyâ poor woman.â
âSo that means there are still no patterns beside them all being females. They all had different jobs, ages, and economic class,â Aether cupped his chin reading more into her file. âYeah, she was alone, sadly the day she found a friend was one of her last,â he bowed and prayed to the Archonâs that her soul find peace.
âShe was pretty well off, so itâs a bit concerning the murderer is traveling,â the last victim, Noelle, wasnât as fortunate and lived on the very outside side of town. She was only living on a maidâs salary so her living conditions werenât exactly grand. âWhoever our guy is, is one sick bastard,â Childe closed his eyes, avoiding the blood around the room. Oh how it made him shiver, âbut hey, I will wrap it up here, you can head out,â Aether shot him a glance, âwhatâs wrong?â He had to solve this case, he had been on it since it first started. He couldnât exactly rest until he found the killer, he had to for the safety of other women in the city of Mondstadt and for his own little sister.
âNo, itâs okay, I need to find more information,â his eyes then wandered to her purse, âanyone check it?â Childe shook his head, âalright I wil-â suddenly his phone rang, and his partner laughed.
âNot if your sister has anything to say about that,â he teased, crossing his arms over his chest. Aether felt a blush rush across his cheeks, going to answer his phone.
âLu, hey, whatâs going on? Are you okay?â She assured him she was fine and was just wondering when he would be home. âI will be home soon, yes I am being careful. Donât worry, ok? Yeah, yeahââ Childe just watched as his partner paced back and forth with a smile on his face. He hardly ever saw his partner smile, but when it came to Lumine, you could never get him to stop. âOf course, canât wait, I love you, haha, bye,â and on cue his smile faded looking down at his lock screen of the two of them at the beach. Childe knew that the only person Aether cared about was his own sister and I am sure she felt the same way.
âDonât worry,â Childe rested his hand on his shoulder giving a comforting squeeze, âyou will find him.â
âYeah, thanks,â he laughed softly, âI should get home. She seems worried and I donât exactly blame herâ Um I will be sure to look over the evidence that you send to me. Please be sure to attach everything, ok? I will be back in the office later tonight after she has gone to bed.â
âSure sure, but I really think you should take care of your sister first. She sounded like she really needs her older brother,â Childeâs gave a look of concern, but Aether wasnât having it.
âI am doing this to protect her, and I wonât stop at nothing until I know she is safe,â he hated when otherâs butted into their relationship, especially Childe.
âI see. Like I always say, I donât mind taking care of he-â Aether held up a hand.
âIf you even dare go there I will kick your ass off my team, and kick your ass completely,â his lips thinned in aggravation.
âRoger that,â Childe laughed. Oh, how Aether hated his juvenile jokes involving his sister, no man was good enough for her especially not even Childe. âOnly a jokeâ anywho have fun, detective,â he waved him off.
When Aether arrived home, he felt a strange warmth surrounding him. This was the effect his sister had on him, comfort. Once he opened the door, he was greeted by a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. âHey, itâs okay,â he rubbed her back, âI am safe, see?â She puffed out her chubby cheeks that he loved pinching.
âThatâs not the point, dummy! I still worry about youâŠâ She pulled away and looked to the ground. She always dreaded the thought of him never coming home and he knew that was her fear.
âLu you have nothing to worry about,â he flexed his muscles, âyour big brother can handle himself,â she laughed softly.
âIt doesnât help that your partner is almost a whole person taller than you,â that really stung his ego. âHow is he?â
âHow is he?â He echoed, âsince when do you care how Childe is?â Her cheeks flushed with red, âis there something you havenât told me?â
âN-no! I was just wondering! Geez you are allowed to flirt with Keqing, but I canât talk to Childe?â Aether couldnât believe his ears, were they having a fling behind his back. âWe arenât doing anything, I promise, he asked to go for coffee one time, but we never did.â What a relief, Aether thought.
âI just think you can do better, he is a playboy anyway,â he noticed his sisterâs body shift, âerr never mind. I just know that you deserve so much more,â a small smile formed on her face. âCome on, letâs eat, it smells too delicious in here.â
âI made my favorite, Buttered Crab,â he followed Lumine into the kitchen with a big smile on his face.
After dinner, Lumine headed to bed which gave Aether time to look over the evidence. âEverything should be there,â Childe said over a video call, âI am going to head home for the night, when do you think you are coming back in? Keqing has been wondering but not wondering for a while now.â Aetherâs chuckled, minimizing the documents and looking at Childe.
âShouldnât be long, she is asleep now, which reminds me,â Aether looked over his shoulder and then back at the camera. âYou asked her out to coffee?â Childeâs eyes widened a bit before chuckling, âitâs not funny. I told you I would kick you off my team.â
âI know, but, you act like you two are dating,â Aether squinted, âI just noticed me and her had a lot in common so, I took the shot.â
âBehind my back.â
âYeah, I did do that, but it wasnât meant for any offense. I really like her, and when we talk-â
âYou talk?â
âMm, I really think we should focus on the case, and then we can talk about that,â Aether closed his eyes trying to calm himself. âHey, I really didnât mean to step on any toes.â
âI told you to stay away from her,â he said through gritted teeth, âtomorrow I will be sending a letter for you being inappropriate with a co-workerâs family.â
âAether, dude, itâs not that serious.â
âIt is! When I tell you to keep your eyes off my sister and you ask her out for coffeeâ I have a fucking problem with that!â There was then a silence between them.
âI understand. I messed up, and if you want me off your team, I understand⊠I really want to work with you, it has always been so fun haha, but I get it.â Aether scanned his face, and could tell he was being genuine, âI will pack my desk u-â
âNo no, I am sorry, I went off the handle there,â he sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. âI am just stressed out, and I just want her safe.â
âI get it. If she was my sister I would feel just as protective. Look, I promise, strictly professional,â he held up a hand in scoutâs honor fashion.
âThanks for that, anyway, you get home, I will be back in a bit,â he hung up the call and ran his hand through his hair. He quickly gathered his things and went back to his office.
âHey you are back,â Keqing handed him a cup of coffee, âjust on time.â
âHey, thanks for this,â he took a sip, come on and fill me in,â she followed him to his desk where he began unpacking.
âHere are all the files of the victims, letâs try and crack something.â In front of him were the files of Eula, Iris, Una, Lisa, Mona, and Noelle. After an hour later the two had nothing that even came close to connecting each individual woman. âI suppose they are just acting at random,â Keqing sighed.
âWouldnât be the first, but I have a feeling like they are,â he leaned back in his chair, âthe killer does it in a timely manner,â she hummed. âThere is a connection somewhere, there has to beââ
âCaptain,â the two looked over to see Albedo, âhere I have this tape recorder found at the scene,â the two lifted an eyebrow.
âTape recorder, who found it?â He took it from Albedo, slipping a glove on his hand before taking it out of the bag.
âChilde found it underneath the victim's purse.â
âChilde never said anything about this in his reports,â Aether was ready to call him up again to scold him, but he had other matters to attend to first.
Pressing play he heard the screams of the woman, they were absolutely blood curdling. After a few minutes the screams turned into shallow breathing, and thenâ nothing. The three closed their eyes giving a silent prayer for the victim. Her last minutesâ she never deserved it. No one did. Suddenly there was shuffling and finally a voice came, âhello detective, have you caught on?â The voice was distorted so Aether wasnât able to match it with anyone, âare you getting a headache? Does it hurt that you canât capture me?â Aetherâs eyes narrowed, the taunting was unbearable. This man clearly thought it was a game. The voice let out a cackle, even with distortion it felt so cold. âAh, detective, maybe itâs time we finally met. I am on my way to my final target, and once you have heard this tape, it will already be too late.â His eyes widened, jumping up from his chair.
âAether!â Keqing stopped him.
âDonât be rash, captain,â Albedo said and he clenched his fists until they turned white.
âOh detective, you want to know who my last target is?â
âThis fucker is toying with me,â Aether cursed.
âThe name, itâs in the files. Good hunting, detective,â the recording stopped. Aether began to pace around the room trying to figure out what he meant. He stared at the files and read off the name of all the girls.
âEula, Una, Lisa, Iris, Mona, Noelle,â he repeated it again, âLisa, Una, Mona, Iris, Noelleââ his blood ran cold, grabbing his car keys and heading out.
âAlbedo, send a unit,â Keqing called, he nodded before rushing off.
The detective raced up the stairs, busting into the apartment only to be greeted by the sight of blood, but no sign of a body. He began to tremble, trying to find the person he was looking for, but there were no traces of her. He fell to his knees, eyeing the blood. On the wall in front of the twin was written in big crimson letters, âGOOD HUNTING DETECTIVE.â He had lost. His eyes then fell to a lone tape recorder, his hand couldnât stop shaking as he picked it up and pressed play.
âShe is beautiful, but you already knew that. I have been admiring her for some time, but you wouldnât allow me to be around her. I wanted her, and you told me no,â the distortion in the voice faded, âI love her, Aether,â he dropped the tape recorder, hearing who it was. âHow does it feel to know it wasnât just coffee that we decided on, I have been to your apartment without you being there. Hah, donât worry, we havenât, not yet that is. Maybe if you let us be together I wouldnât have resulted in this. Itâs your fault they are all dead, Aether, and now it is your fault she is gone. Hey, donât worry, I will take care of her. She will be pampered, shown love that is unimaginable, and even please her in ways you never could.â

Childe adjusted his rear view mirror on the face of the sleeping blonde in his back seat. âWasnât that fun, girlie?â he stopped at a red light reaching back and stroked the side of her face. âNow you are all mine, and I am never letting you go.â
