Lotus Flower (Radiohead cover)
Recording this song was an experiment on multiple fronts, and I'm pleasantly surprised by the results. Radiohead's The King of Limbs has been out only a few days now, but I quickly latched onto the song "Lotus Flower". I was familiar with the version Thom Yorke had debuted live sometime last year, and it never fails to impress me how the band manages to reinvent these ideas in the studio. If anything, it gives me faith in the notion of a song as its own entity, and how the idea itself will always come through no matter how you choose to present it.
I was listening to this one on the way home from work last night when I decided I should record it. And here I am with what I consider a "final" version. For one, I'm really glad I was able to see through an idea in a matter of hours, as I'm always guilty of kicking off a song or riff and never finishing it; putting it off indefinitely under the illusion that that same initial spark will strike me down the road and incite me to finish what I started. That never seems to be the case, does it?
Also, I tracked the guitar and vocals simultaneously (with some synth added afterwards for texture), so I had very little wiggle room for editing. All told, I'm pretty happy with the results. Hope you like it!
