What Grinds my Gears about Yen Sid
This isn't the style of my usual posts but this has been bugging me for a while, especially since Dream Drop Distance.
While potentially being the most intelligent being in the Kingdom Hearts universe apart from Ansem the Wise, in my opinion Yen sid has a lot to answer for.
Yen sid is a 'retired' Keyblade Master
It seems Yen sid's purpose is to train up any willing Keyblade wielder and bring them to master status. Fair enough right? That's not good enough in my opinion. Yen sid does nothing to actively aid anyone in the KH universe. Take Birth by sleep for example, Yen sid sent out a young boy (Ventus) who wasn't even near being master status to go and retrieve Mickey from Xehanort in the Keyblade Graveyard. He knew what master Xehanort was capable of, and still he sent out a boy to do his dirty work. He also allowed Aqua to go out alone to the Keyblade Graveyard to face off Xehanort and Vanitas. Yen sid is clearly capable of powerful magic (if he can fucking send Sora and Riku back in time)- If he is that good at magic surely he can still wield a Keyblade effectively? Who knows- one extra keyblade against Xehanort, and the tide could have been turned. But no, he sat on his arse at home probably watching Jersey Shore, not even feeling remotely guilty that Ventus was in a comatose state afterwards.
Yen sid, despite being powerful, does not alter any events
After Birth by Sleep, Yen sid Knew that Aqua, Terra were missing and Ventus' heart was lost. Mickey shows in RE:coded that he is trying to piece together where they are, and shows regret for what happened to them, as seen in dream drop distance. There is also the likely possibility that when Mickey was searching for his Keyblade in the Realm of Darkness back in KH1, he was also keeping an eye out for Aqua. Yen sid sat on his arse again all those years. He clearly did not give a fuck about the BBS trio. Granted, he wasn't even created in KH1, but it would've been nice for Nomura to at least give an explanation of how he was so 'busy'. In KH2 he also does nothing to physically aid Sora. Yes, he gives information about the nobodies, and gives him back his OWN gummi ship, but anyone else could have done that. The three fairies gave Sora new clothes and powers. Yen sid probably demonstated to Sora, Donald and Goofy his best fart on their way out.
Yensid KNEW the danger that Sora and Riku were going to face.
'Here's an idea everyone: Master Xehanort is probably going to come back in multiple forms and more dangerous than ever. Lets put Sora and Riku in what is probably the most dangerous and non conventional exam ever done. Oh and to make things more risky? Lets return Sora and Riku to their original forms with no keyblade experience, but don't worry he'll never turn up to attack them there when they're most vulnerable! Xehanort has never shown himself as a cunning man! This idea will thwart him for sure lolol'
and YET still blames Sora
The task in the Mark of Mastery exam was to release the 7 sleeping worlds then return safely. Right. Both Sora and Riku did return safely. But both needed help to do it. Riku would probably not have returned without Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Axel giving him a hand. Sora wouldn't have returned without Riku. Yet Riku is the only one who gains the title of Master. It isn't fair as they both returned safely with the help of others. Don't get me wrong- they should both be masters as Aqua only became one by battering some bubbles about- but to isolate Sora alone as a failure pretty much makes Yen sid an absolute dick. I'm sure Master Eraqus would have named them masters long ago.
So that concludes on why I think Yen sid should clean up his act and get off that high horse of his. Any comments welcome. If Normura made Yen sid get up out of his chair and actually help- well that would be awesome. But I won't hold my breath.
