Skylights - A Mini Tutorial
Since we now have glass roofs, we can make skylights! Here’s a how-to in 10 steps.

Go to the second storey of your house, place a room in the middle, spanning from the one short side to the other short side of the house. Leave three squares on each side. Then place several 3x1 half gabled roofs against it.
Place another half gabled roof that is 1x as many squares as the long side of the house. Place this roof at the lowest end and pull the top eaves of it down by pressing SHIFT + the circled arrow. If you don’t press SHIFT, it’ll also shorten the lower eaves and that’s gonna look weird. (If you want to make a larger skylight, you can skip this step).
Place a gabled roof on top of the second storey, and make the eaves longer by pulling the circled arrow. (Again if you want a larger skylight, you may want to shorten the eaves or leave the as they are).
Shorten or lengthen the half gabled roofs on their sides to get the holes the size you want your skylights to have. Use (SHIFT +) the circled arrow. You can of course make them shorter or longer on one or both sides. If you do shorten the roofs on the outer sides of the house, do the same thing for any other roof pieces that reach that far to prevent them sticking out.
Place another half gabled roof that is one (actually two) tile shorter than the building itself (the larger arrow in the lower circle). You’ll need to do this on both sides (this one doesn’t work symmetrically). Also shorten the eaves (both sides) by using the arrow that’s circled at the top (don’t press SHIFT).
Apply a glass roof pattern. You’ll notice it’s overlapping the other roof parts. It will be a lot less visible with the non-patterned glass, but it’ll flicker when moving the camera.
This is easily solved by lowering the entire glass roof by one notch, do this by using the circled arrow.
Apply roof textures and trims to all the other roof parts. The larger roof trims will probably work better, though I would avoid the very large one, it’ll make your skylight considerably smaller.
Use the copy roof function to do the exact same thing on the other side of the house, except faster. This is of course optional. Do keep in mind that you shouldn’t mirror the roof pieces because they may be sized differently. For example the roof piece on the top right is copied to the bottom left.
Sometimes, the textures will not display properly (large circle - this actually is a common roofing issue, not specific to skylights), you’ll need to shorten the top eaves by using SHIFT + the circled arrow.
I know these written tutorials with quickly made screenshots aren’t ideal, but it’s all I can do for now. I might look into doing videos or streams (since I have a twitch account now) because I do really enjoy figuring out how to build certain things and making tutorials.
