On Updates, Future Plans, and Sausage
Hi, I’m _Kilburn, lead developer of the Antibirth mod. I will try to update this blog every once in a while with information on updates, future plans, or just random development anecdotes!
First of all, thank you all so much for the kind support, we never expected this mod to have such a huge success and it just feels so surreal to see all of our hard work finally paying off like this! We still have quite a few plans for the future, and while nothing is set in stone yet, we’ll make sure to let you guys know if anything concrete comes up.
We have been working on an update containing fixes for several bugs and broken rooms (such as the one infamous Gurdy room), minor balance changes, and most importantly an auto updater. This is a very important update for us since it will allow us to push bug fixes much more efficiently and frequently, so we need some more time to make sure everything’s in working order.
Expect the update to hit at the end of this week. I will post a full changelog here once that happens, although keep in mind that not all known issues will be fixed in this update, there are still a few tricky ones left that we still need to pinpoint. Rest assured that more bug fixes will come in the future!
I’ve set up an issue tracker on GitHub, which you can access here:
https://github.com/UnderscoreKilburn/antibirth-bugs/issues
This will be a lot easier to manage compared to the previous Google form, although you will need to create an account there in order to submit an issue. Here are a few basic guidelines you might want to follow if you’re new to bug reporting:
Make sure your version is up to date! You’re going to look silly if you report a bug that was already fixed several patches ago.
Similarly, have a quick glance at the other issues to make sure you’re not posting a bug that has already been reported by someone else.
Try to make the title as explicit as possible.
Try to give as much information as possible in the description! If you can provide a seed, or instructions on how to replicate your bug, that can really speed up the bug fixing process. Pictures and video footage can help a lot as well.
I will try to make sure every bug you report is fixed as quickly as possible, but do keep in mind that we are working on this mod as a hobby, so we will definitely not be as fast as a professional development team. Some bugs are also tougher than others and might require extra testing, so any information you can provide to make the job easier for us will be greatly appreciated.
Once most of the major issues are addressed, we will be doing some more content updates, mainly featuring the five missing challenges, a few items we had to cut due to time constraints, some cut enemies and who knows… maybe an extra boss? I also consider the final area largely unfinished and in dire need of rebalancing, so expect some major revamping there within the next few months.
Mod support is also on the list of things I would like to work on, in fact it already exists as a somewhat “hidden” feature but we decided to put it on the backburner in favor of getting actual content done back when Afterbirth+ was announced. It has a rather barebones Lua framework at the moment, but if there’s any interest in it, I would be happy to refine it and release some documentation, along with some of our tools.
As for Afterbirth+ support, we have a few ideas in mind, but again, nothing is set in stone yet so I can’t give you any details on that at the moment. One thing’s for sure, I definitely want to make it a reality and it will happen one way or another!
That’s all for now! To close this off, have some footage of a couple silly bugs I recorded during development.
