Antigone Kostas’ Extracurricular Activities
How many people can actually say that they were a disc jockey at any level? Not many I can assure you. It is one of those jobs or activities that few of us have the opportunity to do or have the ability to do. Antigone Kostas received that opportunity and seized it when she took on the role of KTRU disc jockey for Woman’s and World Music during her stay at Rice University. Spinning tracks was only part of the gig, but having the ability to have her voice heard across campus was a thrill. It is definitely a thrill that many of us still dream about today. With her love of music, the arts, and her natural ability to connect with other, Antigone was a perfect fit for the job. While Antigone Kostas was spinning records and voicing her thoughts to the campus, she was also doubling as the co-president for Amnesty International for three years. Her love for and compassion for her community and for others only made it natural for her to get involved with the human rights group. Her belief in service to others and her actions has always aligned perfectly. Her career in Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry can attest to her ongoing service to the betterment of human suffrage. Antigone would later be involved with University discussion groups as a fellow as well as serve on the Rice University Provost Search Committee and on the Rice University Senior Committee. The extracurricular activities of Antigone Kostas are just an extension of her service and volunteerism within her communities. In essence, they are one in the same when you boil it down. You can divide them into categories, but they all end with Antigone being an active leader in her community.
