New pfp for 2026!!!

This one might stick around even longer than that though because I really don't think I can do better with my current skill set. This is the peak of my art right now. An excellent representation of what I can do 🥹. It's *literally* perfect.

Procreate says the time it took was 18 hours but I know I def sat with the canvas open lol so it was probably more like 14 over the course of a week. Final brush stroke total is 30,228. Used 106 layers in total! (Not counting the ones I merged together)

Onto the clay bust project!

Our instructions were to make something with a head and shoulders basically as long as it wasnt too simple (like a Lego person or regular squidward *handsome is allowed tho*)

My sketch is supposed to be a like, alien/vampire type guy (I named him Organ). I was inspired by the snake hair Medusa has, multiple eyes because I thought they would look cool, and the subconscious thought of JJK season 3 having came out! I'm sure you can definitely tell with that last one lol!

With the techniques we learned from the coil pot, we began by putting some thick coils on an "armature" and pressing them tightly to reduce the risk of air gaps. Then we put built the clay up into a head and shoulders, and built up more clay on top of that for the features.

After it reached a certain dryness level we had to pry the clay off the armature by cutting it in half... I had to cut behind his jaw and right through his ears 😭

After that, we had to "score and slip" and press and smooth the two halves back together the best we could. Thankfully mine is seamless, even his ears! Then we had to hollow our pieces out to get rid of air pockets that would explode our work when it gets fired in the Kiln.

I then proceeded to give him his hair, made of more coils that I flattened with a paddle. I also finally carved his eye squiggles so he could see *you* (yes you!) properly :)

Today I finished cleaning up his lines and smoothed the little clay beads that appreared as best I could, sealed any cracks with slip, and put him on the shelf uncovered to dry out!

When that's all done, I have to glaze him IF HE SURVIVES HIS FIRST FIRING!!! (I'll also be glazing my coil pot at the same time) I very much hope he does, I'm going to be sad if I can't keep him...

Taking a sculpture class this semester and we're making stuff with clay!

First we had to build a "coil pot" using a "hand building" technique as practice so we could make clay busts which I'll post next :D

(It's supposed to be a basket with a liner in it, she's a lil lopsided)

I started this piece of my Oc during my Intermediate Drawing class because we were experimenting with India Ink!

During critique it was unfinished but basically everyone said it was amazing although I should work on my anatomy some more (which I agree with). I'm always open to constructive criticism, it only helps me improve.

I'm so glad I finished this piece, it'll be the first that will go in my portfolio to pursue a masters degree :)

This is my piece "Tri-Angel" for my 3-D Design class!

Sorry for the terrible pics but I had no idea how to display it bc it's so big 😭 ↓

Tri-Angel is inspired by biblically accurate angel depictions. I aimed to capture the duality between how they are typically shown, intimidating but also elegant. However, I took a more abstract approach to these depictions. There are 2 types of hanging charms at the bottom, the one that looks like leaves are feathers and the other shape is eye pupils. I repeated these shapes in the sides of the triangles as well. Lastly, I kept all sides of the triangles the same to capture the multiple wings and eyes that traditional depictions have. It's about 5 feet long~ (I'm always open to constructive criticism btw, it helps me grow as an artist :))

*Also, my professor asked for me to keep it so he can put it in the Spring exhibition that's for showing off his student's work!!! (We normally just destroy our projects after bc they always take up so much space)*

Explanation: The assignment was to make hanging sculptures (but it was pretty open ended) and we were encouraged to use the (class) cricut cutter for more intricate details. We were going to use chipboard but when my professor put mine in the machine the cutting process said it would've taken 6. hours. a page. So we switched to brown card stock (took like 10 mins a page). I had to cut 7 pages of triangles (with the cricut) but it wasn't cutting all the way through bc the blades are old (most lines were basically just scored) so I had to go over the lines again with an Exacto blade. Then I pretended I was making a gingerbread house while gluing to assemble it.

-Fun facts:

-the design for the triangles were a bit more intricate at first but I simplified it due to the expectation that we were using chipboard

-the hanging charms are made of the chipboard

-I had to walk to Micheals to get a different hanging material 30 mins before critique (the first one I got was wayyyy to stiff, couldnt even tie a knot) (we were told to use "fishing wire" for the invisibility but I didn't know if that was the same as fishing line)

-My professor only had the thought to cut my design twice on like, the last 3 pages so I didn't have to keep cutting it out with the Exacto again lol

Week 6: Color Scheme

Finally working with colors in 2-D Design

This week I had to go back and choose 3 of my old pieces I made in class, then re do them and apply a type of color scheme!

I used colored pencil for all of them, but a combo of alcohol markers and colored pencil for the first one ↓

Tetradic: 4 colors on the color wheel selected in a rectangle so there is 2 sets of complimentary colors and it creates a vibrant and balanced color pallette (I chose Lime Green and Red-Orange, then Magenta and Blue)

Analogus: 4 colors on a color wheel that are directly next to each other (Mine are Yellow, Green, Teal, and Blue)

Monochromatic: A color pallette where you choose one color but you use a tint (main color + white), shade (main color + black), and/or tone (main color + grey), to add variation. I tried to go for a sepia filter (the kind you use on photos) color scheme with a reddish brown.
