thank you .
“I want to thank every single one of you for coming out. This is very important, this is very vital. Black lives have always mattered. We have always been important. We have always meant something. We have always succeeded, regardless. And now is the time. I ain’t waiting! I AIN’T WAITING! I’ve been born in this country. I am 28 years old. Born and raised in London. Every black person understands and realizes the first time you are reminded that you are black. You remember. Every black person in here remembers when another person reminded you that you were black. I need you guys to understand- I need you to understand how painful this shit is. I need you to understand how painful it is to be reminded every day that your race means nothing and that isn’t the case anymore, that is never the case anymore. We’re going to try today. We are a physical representation of our support for George Floyd. We are a physical representation on our support for Sandra Bland. We are a physical representation on our support for Trayvon Martin. We are a physical representation of our support for Stephen Lawrence. For Mark Duggan. It is very very important that we keep control of this movement, and we make it as peaceful as possible. We make this as peaceful and as organized as possible. Because you know what, guys? They want us to mess up. They want us to be disorganized. But not today! NOT TODAY! Not today! This message is specifically for black men: black men, black men we need to take care of our black women. We need to take care of- They are our hearts! THEY ARE OUR HEARTS! They are our future. We cannot demonize our own. We are the pillars of the family. Imagine this, a nation that is set up with individual families that are thriving, that are healthy, that communicate, that raise their children in love have a better rate of becoming better human beings. And that’s what we need to create. Black men, it starts with you. It’s done man, we can’t be trash no more. We have to be better. You don’t understand? I’m speaking to you from my heart. Look, I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this, but f**k that! Today is about innocent people who were halfway through their process. We don’t know what George Floyd could have achieved, we don’t know what Sandra Bland could have achieved, but today we’re going to make sure that that won’t be an alien thought to our young ones. You lot came today, you left your kids, and when you see your kids they’re aimlessly playing, they don’t understand what’s going on. Today is the day that we remind them that we are dedicated and this is a lifelong dedication. Guys, we don’t leave them stop you now. This is longevity. Some of you are artists, some of you are bankers, some of you are lawyers, some of you own shop stores. You are important, your individual power, your individual right is very, very important. We can all join together to make this a better world.
Thank you for coming out today. Thank you for your support. To us. Black people I love you. I appreciate you. Today is an important day, we are fighting for our rights. We are fighting for our ability to live in freedom. We are fighting for our ability to achieve. We are fighting for equality. And you are the physical representation of that. NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE! Today is the day that we stand. We walk. It’s not about career, it’s not about money, it’s about your right to live as a human being.”

So none of you out there, all those protesters on the other side, protesting against what we want to do, protesting against what we want to try and achieve, burn you, this is so vital. I need you to understand how painful this shit is. I need you to understand how painful it is to be reminded every day that your race means nothing and that isn’t the case anymore, that was never the case anymore.” John Boyega at The Black Lives Matter protest in Hyde Park June 3rd 2020

I may be across the ocean right now, but I lived in Minneapolis for 4 years. I love that community and I stand with the Black Lives Matter movement 100%.
I’m not going to be reblogging things here, because this is a fandom blog and I want to keep it calm and make a space for those of you who need a break from the constant outpouring of stressful news updates. But I also don’t want to pretend I’m a neutral party. I’m not. Police brutality is a serious problem in America, and people’s grief and anger is completely justified.
If you want to help or read up on what’s happening, I’ve reblogged a few things on my main account ( @thechekhov ) and on my twitter (the_chekhov), including resources for followers who are abroad and want to help by donating or reading up.
I’m not doing drawing donations because I don’t want to ask for others’ money - I’m just helping out using my own resources.
Cheers, and if you’re out there, please stay safe. If you’re white, remember - this is not about you. DON’T escalate - follow the instructions of the black protest leaders and protect one another.

*they haven’t got round to formally throwing off the “family” name but they will.

Su crits: BUT THE vILLAins in StEvEn UnIvErse WERE REALLY EVILL!!! and steven just FORGAVE THEM??? and there were NO CoNsEqUeNCes? We can’t just forgive bad people that’s p r o b l e m a t i c!!!!!!
Me: steven never actually forgave anyone. He helped them because he had no choice. He tried to move on and ignore what happened because he didn’t know what else he could do. But suppressing his true feelings towards them actually resulted in psychological trauma, violent thoughts and depression so yeah hun I’d say there were consequences
Y'all I don’t know. I love the show but I still think it’s wild Rebecca made the diamonds a genocidal authoritarian regime in charge of a pseudo caste system and then decided to redeem them. Like I don’t think she did it on purpose, I just think redeeming the diamonds was definitely not the plan the whole time.
Well, what other option is there?? Steven can’t kill them, that’s more trauma and way more enemies to fight because of the uprising from homeworld that would rise from that. They can’t be inprisoned, they’re too powerful for that. All they can do is try to be peaceful and start slowly fixing their mistakes, which is exactly what they’re doing. Noone forgave them. Noone is excusing their actions. They’re just working towards getting better. Is it idealistic? Yeah, I doubt that would happen in reality, and it could have been explored a lot more in depth. But it still can be explained, and it’s not like the villains realising their mistakes and no longer being a threat means the series is somehow excusing their bad actions, all of the show’s themes directly contradict everything the Diamonds and the old system were about.
I don’t know, it’s just a real “US during the Cold War” mindset. Like homeworld is heavily implied to have plotted at least one genocide and it’s sort of implied they actually committed multiple. But the show seems really quick to forgive them because the leaders are willing to change. They go from being the main villian to “you know, we just have to live with them. Oh well.”
It’s just sort of jarring to have a show that’s both extremely forward thinking in terms of charactes and representation that also (probably accidentally, I’m more that willing to give Rebecca Sugar the benefit of the doubt) says leaders that plot genocide and run an authoritarian regime can be forgiven.
I’m not saying the show is bad or anything, I just think Rebecca Sugar used some themes and shorthands without fully thinking through the consequences of using those themes.
