some personal notes regarding the White Lady

Its interesting to look at the difference in how she addresses the Knight versus Hornet

With the Knight, she explicitly calls it her spawn:

She uses the possessive (in the grammatical sense) "my", but then its followed by 'spawn'. Not 'child'. An acknowledgement of its connection to her, but then followed by a rather callous choice of word. It is of her, but it is not her child. The term child is not one reserved for it.

The term is, in fact, specifically for Hornet.

The White Lady almost always uses 'child' when referring to Hornet. In contrast to GMS, its clear from Hornet and the White Lady's conversation that 'child' as a term is not meant to be a cage. It is an aspect of Hornet, in relation to the White Lady, but that's it.

What's noticeable is that despite the fact that the daughter of three queens is confirmed, meaning that the White Lady did in fact raise Hornet, the White Lady never uses 'my' for Hornet. Hornet is not 'my' child. And I think that's very much on purpose.

It could be that it's literally due to the fact that Hornet is Herrah's daughter. But I think it's more than that.

I think its a separation between the White Lady's children and Hornet, for Hornet's sake. To be the White Lady's child means to be dead before you were born, or to be sealed or to suffer whatever else horrible fate she and the Pale King thrust upon them.

So she makes a clear distinction between the vessels and Hornet, a clear indication of what the White Lady hopes for Hornet.

And what she hopes for can only be done by not being the White Lady's child.
