Wait, we do that over here at tumblr? Alright, alright, I'll try my best. Hiye, I'm Anzol (He/She)! I'm a 25 years old brazilian Bi-disaster struggling through my ADHD to get a hold of my life. I write mostly to vent out my creative mind nagging me so much they start getting in the way of the rest of my life, but also to maybe, perhaps show people that swashbuckling alt-history and sword and sorcery stories can be just as martially wondrous as oriental wuxia, chambara and general martial arts fiction. I'm not the most social media person out there so I'm really not too familiar with how one tumbles this tumblr thing, but I'm honestly kinda excited to try, been wanting to for years already. I am more or less trying to write this series called "Sword of the Exiled", a swashbuckling low fantasy about a runaway girl and a mysterious foreigner martial master chockful or references to techniques and knowledge pertinent to HEMA practitioners. I have no idea what my inspirations are... they exist but my memories of what i have read are all kinda muddled, so I'm not particularly and intentionally trying to take inspiration from specific works I know to name.

As of currently, I'm not very sure on my writing style just yet... at times I feel like I'm overly wordy and descriptive, so I'd say I'm badly hurting for some criticism, to know where I can improve with some tangible guidance and what elements to leave behind.

like every other game dev born after 1985 i've had thoughts of making my own Pokemon-like and the main roadblock for me has been: how do i come up with a typing system that doesn't just mimic Pokemon's? and the answer is you don't come up with a system. maybe there's types but they're completely ad-hoc - you could even have one-off types just for one specific mon or move if you want. the flexibility is dizzying; you can add dozens or hundreds of new types whenever. sound type, radiation type, magic type. go wild! you begin to run into combinatorial explosion. strengths and weaknesses grow more nonsensical as you start skipping over most of your ever-growing type chart anytime you add a new one. after all, who cares whether food-type mons are weak or strong versus electricity? they just need to be weak against munch-type attacks, and maybe mold-type too. to make full use of the increasingly-specific types you've been coming up with, some of your mons end up with 5 or 10 types. your spidershark monster is, at the very least, a spider, shark, swim, beast, and bug type. overlaps happen; redundancies crop up. music type, nuclear type, mystic type. have you done those before? don't worry about it. 3 years into development you cannot imagine having ever hated anyone as much as you hate yourself

I went to the Renaissance faire dressed as a warrior.  I had a real sword with me, too.  I was standing (in character) next to a sword-fighting ring, where kids of all ages got the chance to pick up a sword and challenge the champion.  Some woman walks by, with her little girl.  The girl starts walking towards the ring, saying she wants to fight.  But the mom pulled her away hella sharply, and was like, “That’s for boys.”  You don’t want to be a BOY, do you?”    And the girl looked around and saw me.  I think she thought I was a boy; I had my hair in a ponytail, and was wearing a hood.  So she comes up to me and asks me, “Do you think girls can be fighters, too?”  And her mom looks like she’s silently gloating.  Like she thinks I’m going to say no.  So I take off my hood, untie my hair so that it flows freely, and kneel before her.  And I’m like, “Milady, anyone can be a fighter.”  I swear, the look on that mother’s face made my day.

Okay, this is a slight topic diversion, but in response to the above comment. I’ve volunteered at the CT Ren Faire for years now. For the last 5 or so I’ve worked in the game section, and we have a game similar to the above comment called “Smite the Knight”. I’ve been in the ring before, it’s a ton of fun getting to run around with the kids. The main goal is entertainment. Have a good shtick, keep the crowd engaged, and let the kids have a good time.

In both work and observing, I have learned something about kids. A lot of parents try to get their boys to go fight. Of the young ones that do, they tend to be shy. You get the ones who just swing the boffer swords around with no regard for life, but, mostly, they’re reserved. It’s adorable. I mean, they’re kids.

But the girls. THE GIRLS. Holy crap. I swear, the pinker the dress, the more taffeta and glitter…the more intensity. I remember, the first year I worked there, one girl came in, grabbed the biggest sword she could, and WENT TO TOWN on our knight. Lifted it over head, let out this primal scream and mowed him down. Homeboy is 6′2″, she was FIVE. And once he was in the fetal position (He was fine. It was for show.) on the ground, she stopped, put her foot on his chest, and yelled “I AM A FIERCE PRINCESS!!”. Later in the day when she walked by a couple of us yelled “Ah! It’s the fierce princess!” and she stopped and flexed. It was the best, and I will never forget that girl.

I taught karate for like 5 years, and the girls were always, pound for pound, better than the boys. Even the girls who didn’t really want to do it and were only there because their parents made them were better than like 95% of the boys.

I was playing fiddle at a ren faire, and two little girls were really enjoying our set. After quite some time one of them walked up to me and shyly offered me her star tinsel tiara, because she “didn’t have any money. And this protects you from trolls!” I said “Thanks, that’s really sweet – but what about you? Don’t you need protection from trolls?”

At which point this six-ish-year-old girl whips out her certificate from the axe throwing booth and says “Nah, I’m fine.”

I still have that tinsel tiara. It’s draped over my modem. I figure it’ll protect me from the most trolls that way.

Flashbacks to my judo years in early youth and that one girl who made grown ass adults look like ragdolls in sparring.

Most boys there couldn't even lift the other kids their age, fighting her taught me more than even the sensei (who'd hold back) and definitely had me in fear of my life whenever it was time.

God, I still remember how a single pull from her could well shake me to the core physically, mentally and very much literally for that matter.

Or my sister, little taekwondo menace that can probably break me in half if she so wills it. I'm bigger, older and do have more than just a bit of martial arts experience myself, i wouldn't trust any chances against her regardless.

Or the beautiful trans girl i met recently in a boffer swordplay group who i found out does hema, so i wanted to spar some with her. I was unsurprisingly demolished.

Yeah, fight like a girl, or fall to their might.
