And with that, for the first time in an eternity, Armin saw Jean smile; not an accidental smile he had meant to hide, but a full, genuine smile. They both knew nothing could bring back the years they wasted, but in that moment they almost felt it all melt away. A confluent feeling surrounded them as they looked at each other in loving silence.

Jean slowly backed into the doorway, Armin having no choice but to follow. As they were enclosed inside the small room, they felt a feeling of intimacy thought to have been long gone. Jean took a leap of faith, leaning into Armin until he was pressed against the bedroom door. Armin’s mouth laid slightly open, eyes stuck on Jean’s as their lips met. That single kiss felt more divine than any god; more ambrosial than anything either of them had tasted.

As they pulled away they felt complete again. Their wounds weren’t fully healed; that’s not what they needed anyways, but they were almost numbed; their pain finally bearable. Armin sighed, grabbing Jean’s hand and holding it tightly as if to tell him he wouldn’t let him go ever again.
