"Just as quickly as the interaction occurred, it had ended. And Shane had been left to grapple with his own death. An imminent one coming far too soon. And then whatever would be left once his corpse was reanimated. He hoped he wouldn’t be aware of it."

It's the zombie apocalypse. While Shane, Ryan, and a few of their surviving co-workers make their daring escape to the rooftop for a military evacuation Shane get's bit. Ryan is forced to leave him there as Shane transforms into a zombie, losing all sense of who he is and becoming a grotesque, hungry, creature. Years later Ryan and co. returns to the Buzzfeed offices and Ryan comes face to face with his zombified best friend. Shane nearly kills him but has a realization; He knows this man.. this is Ryan... this is his best friend. Slowly, Shane's humanity is restored. Miraculously, It's his love for Ryan (and vice versa) that brings him back.
