Working at Starbucks wasn’t the best of jobs, but it was a job regardless. It paid well and was a good environment with lots of nice people, even though sometimes they are so busy they never get a chance to even get to know each other. This was the situation for Antonio and Lovino. Antonio had always taken notice of the unique Italian boy who had quite the temper, and worked diligently regardless what he was appointed. He was handsome and had this adorable curl in his hair Antonio was tempted to see what would happen if he touched it. Yet he barely had the time to know him. His shifts were full and his lunches were in different hours. It would seem to remain a simple coexistence, until a certain day.
The customer had obviously woken up from the wrong side of the bed, and had made it its goal to fuck up everyone that he encountered. Including the poor employees that had to deal with him. This time the unlucky one was Antonio. He ordered a drink, and Antonio of course went ahead, hurrying over to get the drink. It began with the fact that he had spelled the name wrong. Most people would just ignore it and go on. This customer wasn’t having it. He yelled at Antonio, finger pointing, demanding for the drink to be remade and his name to be properly written, the poor Antonio almost shrinking. Antonio knew that if he fought back he would get fired, and he really needed to keep the job, so he bared with it, as loud as the man was. Antonio went with protocol, and remade the drink, spelling the name correctly, only for the customer to go on another rant of how it wasn’t enough cream or some bullshit like that. Antonio felt like screaming himself…but someone beat him to it.
Next thing anyone knew, a large portion of cream was dripped over the man, everyone in the shop stopping in their place. Antonio’s eyes widened as he watched Lovino empty the cup of cream over the man.
“There, enough cream for ya?” Lovino asked, hissing as he threw the cup away and walked up right up to the man. Lovino was short, but his temper was to be feared. “Now excuse you. I don’t know what the hell happened this morning, but you need to step the fuck down.” Lovino began, his hands on his hips as he walked forward, causing the man to step back. “Antonio is a hardworking and extraordinary employee, and has been working too hard for a jackass like you to come here and scream him down just because you feel like you’re being an ass today. Spell your name wrong? Ok, he fixed it. Too much cream? Now you’re just bringing up bullshit just to fuck his day up.” Lovino glared, stopping right at the entrance of the place. “Antonio doesn’t deserve to be yelled by someone like you, by anyone in fact, but especially not by a jackass like YOU.” Lovino grabbed the door. “Now. Fuck off, SIR.” With that, he slammed it closed. The entire place stood quiet, Lovino indifferently walking back to the counter. After a minute of silence, Lovino turned with a growl.
“What? Hurry up! We have work to do!” Lovino hissed. And so the day went on. Awkwardly, but on. Soon Antonio found his chance, and pulled Lovino aside.
“Um, Lovino, right?” Antonio asked, his cheeks flushing. “Uh…thank you for defending me like that…but I didn’t know that you felt that way…”
Lovino’s cheeks burned, grumbling under his breath. “Well…I can’t lie, you’re a pretty good employee and all…it wasn’t fair that he was yelling at you…” Lovino explained, avoiding eye contact. Antonio smiled sweetly.
“Thank you.” Antonio said, causing Lovino to turn away bashfully.
“W-Well…just get to work.” Lovino ordered, beginning to walk away, but pausing for a moment to turn to Antonio once more. “Um, actually…do you have some time after work? Maybe we could…hang out some time?”
Antonio looked up, nodding. “I would love to.”
Lovino nodded, turning away, giving a triumphant smile that never faded for the rest of the day.
