What did Fort Bravo used to be? (Assuming it was abandoned or something like that.....)
It was a paper mill! It was "abandoned" in the sense that the whole thing fucking collapsed in on itself and was deemed a catastrophic failure not worth trying to recover any product or materials from. It produced a multitude of paper products, from your standard sheet paper to more rigid things like packaging for other companies. Improper water management caused subsidence in the ground beneath it until eventually it couldn't support the weight of the factory complex anymore and a sinkhole swallowed the whole thing up.
Employees on shift at the time went under with it. Once the most important - mostly glukkon and the upper ranks of slig security - were confirmed to be safe, they made a hasty exit. The fate of the rest of the workers was never fully verified.
Hey! Can you tell us more about Fort Bravo? Like where it's at/the vibes/how many people live there?
Fort Bravo is pretty remote; it's surrounded by the remains of what used to be a forest, which was almost entirely leveled during the site's operation as a paper mill. All that's left are miles and miles of stumps, petering out into scrubland that's rapidly expanded without the trees to retain the greener, more humid ecosystem. With the wreck of the factory in the sinkhole at the centre the whole place feels like decay. All the wildlife was killed off or left a long time ago. Some of it is starting to come back, but at the moment it's mostly just ratz.
It's a tense place to live. Living conditions aren't too bad (unsurprisingly, the executives had nice cushy living quarters away from all the noise and dirt at the core of the factory, which escaped largely unscathed, and have now been appropriated by our rebel friends), but people are always on guard, there's not a lot to do, and everyone's traumatised. It's not uncommon for arguments to break out.
Aside from the main cast of APoS introduced so far there's probably another 50ish mudokons living there at any given time. Some are active participants in raids and other activities, others are "home-helpers" who just do infrastructure maintnenance and keep things organised, a few are uncertain/not interested in being revolutionaries and are "on hold" waiting to be picked up/taken to places like Halfway.
Who's responsible for writing the monologues that are read to the workers when the team attacks a factory? How much planning goes into what will be said on the intercom?
Someone wrote out the templates for these kind of alerts a long time ago. At E-ZF-113, the message is semi-automated with a few key presses to specify the exact locations. Somewhere with a bigger budget might have it completely computer-automated. It happens too fast for each one to be bespoke. Similar alerts can be quickly formulated for unit lockdowns in the event of especially gruesome accidents, major infrastructure failures, attempted worker uprisings, escape attempts, and other lethal events.
How much the announcement gives away is purposefully vague. It keeps information from getting in or out, and exercises fear as a method of control, allowing the company to fill in their own truth and paint themselves as having graciously defended their beloved workers from evil outside forces.
Whole gang has been injected with truth serum. Which member of the fort would each of them punch without hesitation
Rae punches Doxie for being a pessimistic downer and having no outward sense of urgency
Gunner punches Rae for being a little shit
Kerry punches Knives for being rude about personal space
Doxie punches Rae for being dramatic, hot-headed, short-sighted and insensitive
Knives punches Gunner for thinking he's the hot-shot leader just because he's the biggest and can sling a huge gun
Lola punches Knives for giving Atchi/Gunner shit on the down-low bc he thinks they're freaky
Atchi punches (flicks) Rae for being unnecessarily aggressive to people and always jumping to the most violent solutions to problems
Pigeon does not punch anybody
The six-wheeled truck rolls to a stop. Rae's head pops out of the sunroof, and Doxie's from the driver-side window, respirator-clad. Both stare up at the wreck of the lab.
"Can't believe they managed to get something this big into the air."
"Yeah."
"..."
"...Fuckin' ugly piece of shit."
This be my magnum opus for this community. The friends we've made along the way, and the new faces who join us.
