My new long-term foster pup is FINALLY out of the shelter and in her new home. I have set up a youcaring fundraiser for pledges towards her veterinary care. She is 10 years old, blind, suffering from years of neglect, has an upper respiratory infection, a yeast infection in her ears, and most importantly will need dental work done as soon as possible (see photo). Donations go through Sniffing Snouts Rescue, a 501c3, and all receipts and updates will be posted on her youcaring page: https://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/please-help-memphis-the-blind-senior-cocker-spaniel/145236
Her owner never came for her (probably a good thing judging by her condition), and even as a purebred cocker spaniel she had no interest at the shelter as a special needs senior. She was saved from euthanasia and now truly deserves for her golden years to be comfortable and well-cared-for!
My roommate left David Attenborough's Africa on in the living room and when I sat down to eat it was playing the goddamned baby elephant scene.
you still have that boy?
I've never had a boy. I've never given birth to a child of either sex, actually.
Oscar Wilde said that if you know what you want to be, then you inevitably become it - that is your punishment, but if you never know, then you can be anything. There is a truth to that. We are not nouns, we are verbs. I am not a thing - an actor, a writer - I am a person who does things - I write, I act - and I never know what I am going to do next. I think you can be imprisoned if you think of yourself as a noun.

Good 'ol Stephen putting a positive spin on what I perceive as one of my worst traits.
Let the games begin
I do want more. I am not content with being happy. I was not made for it. It is not my destiny. My destiny is the opposite.” ― Hermann Hesse, Steppenwolf
I went to New York for 48 hours.
Did not like.
Against my nonexistent better judgment, I talked myself into adopting a senior dog with some health issues who had completely shut down during her time at the county shelter, to the point where she stopped eating and walking. I found numerous well-intentioned people who offered to help financially, and planned to leave work early and go scoop her up today. I wiped my calendar to spend the afternoon showering her with love and making my special homemade food. She had until tomorrow before her time was up, but unbeknownst to me the shelter decided to go ahead and euthanize her this morning due to her deteriorating state. I know if I had gotten to her sooner she would have bounced back. I've seen it happen numerous times to dogs who just can't handle the stress of the shelter, and I'm just so heartbroken that she never got this chance. She deserved better than to slowly die in a high kill shelter, like so many others do every single day. With the tremendous amount of work that goes into trying to save just one life, it's never enough, not even close, and it's beyond upsetting how many never make it. Don't shop, don't breed, you're adding to an already monumental problem. Adopt, spay and neuter, foster, donate, educate, and commit to your pet for a lifetime
My friend Mary Anne put it best: "It is inexcusable that in a country of such professed 'dog lovers', of such means, that this should happen- that this is honestly the routine- millions of times over every year. What makes it especially sad is that these dogs that spend their last lonely, hurt, frightened days trying to find comfort on the concrete floors of our shelters have, over the last 200 years, been bred specifically to have an amplified loyalty and sensitivity to us humans. So rarely now are they 'guard' dogs, 'herding' dogs.. Their only desire is to be faithful to us, loyal to us. And we are faithless to them on the order 2 million a year."
…animals have one thing that puts them way ahead of people: they don’t dissemble, and you don’t have to pretend in front of them.

I am practicing being kind instead of right.
Matthew Quick, Silver Linings Playbook
This is something I need to work on. A lot. It's so hard being kind when someone is just an idiot, though.

This guy stopped watching porn — and he wants you to know why. Gender activist Ran Gavrieli felt that most of the images he saw in porn encouraged negative, even violent, attitudes toward women, despite a recent wave of feminist porn. So he pulled the plug, and found that his personal sex life and private fantasies became much more fulfilling. In his talk at TEDxJaffa, he advocates for physically and emotionally-safe sex, as well as erotica that shows a wider range of fulfilling sexual experiences — including the intimacy of human connection, laughter, and touch. I can't even pick out my favorite quote. They're all so ridiculous and self-righteous and self-satisfying. Maybe the part about "I'm all for sexual freedom".
Your adorable personal anecdote and resulting skewed perception of "sexual freedom" don't get to dictate my fantasies or realities, and they sure as hell don't get to shame me for them.
Oh where did that pic of your boobs go?
I mean. Do you want me to post a link to it here for you, creepy anonymous stranger?
