How to have guests request songs and party with iTunes DJ.
iTunes DJ is one of those features that doesn't see much widespread use because many people just don't know about it. It's great when you want to listen to a playlist at a party and you can even have your fellow iPhone, iPod Touch buddies vote on the songs to hear next. With AirPlay gaining some traction, you can stream the music to your Apple TV 2G and blast your music through your entertainment system.
Things you'll need: The newest iTunes and be signed into your account. Music in your library. iDevice with the Apple Remote app installed. The computer with iTunes need to be on the same network as the iDevice.
First, open iTunes and locate the "iTunes DJ" in the left hand column under the "Playlists" section. Click it.
On the lower right hand side you'll see "Settings". Click it. It will show the above picture, click "Continue".
You'll see a screen similar to the above picture.
Here you can change the amount of songs showing that were recently played and that are coming up.
Make sure you check the box that says "Allow guests to request songs with Remote for iPhone or iPod Touch"
You can add a welcome message but make sure you check the box "Restrict requests to source" and choose the correct playlist you want your guests to request from.
You can also "Enable Voting" and require a password if you'd like.
Go ahead and click the first track on the list to start playing!
Now you obviously don't want to go back and forth to your computer all night so just grab your iPhone and follow these steps to remotely DJ:
Download the Remote app here.
It you're on the same network as your computer playing the music, it should appear like the above picture.
Tap the library listed under "iTunes DJ"
You will then see the songs coming up and can vote on songs to play next.
Tap the heart icon next to the songs you want to vote for like the above picture.
You can also request a song from the designated playlist that you allowed for earlier.
