Apple and Sammy #6
"You lied. You lied to me." She heard in the silence.
Apple was sitting in her usual spot in her dorm. On her bed. With a book in her lap. It was another book from a trilogy she was reading but she could not focus on the events of the story. Her mind was somewhere else. She hugged the book to her chest and looked around the room. She could feel a presence but she couldn't see it. There was a faint memory of an imaginary person still living in her head. The girl's been too distracted that she forgot about that imaginary person and if he existed or not.
Sammy.
Apple realized, her eyes widening. How could she forget about him? How could she forget her only friend who's been there for her since she was five years old? She couldn't remember the last time she talked to him, or even seen him since he used to just appear to her anytime and anywhere he desired. Used to. When did he stop?
Apple looked frantically around the room, trying to get him to come to her. She tried to remember what he looked like. She tried to remember his blue-greenish eyes and blonde shaggy hair and his tall figure. His nerdy clothing and idiotic personality that made her happy.
Just when she thought it would not work, she heard a voice. “I’m still here.." He said. Apple opened her eyes and looked up, seeing her imaginary friend standing there next to the window. Standing up, a huge smile spread on her face when she saw him. But it was soon whipped away when she saw his expression. Sammy didn't have that happy expression on his face like he usually did. He wasn't excited like usual, neither was he smiling in the slightest bit. That tripped Apple off. What happened?
"I'll tell you what happened," he spoke again. Apple frowned. She forgot that he was practically a piece of her brain and he could hear her thoughts. "What happened is that you hung onto me from when you were five until now, seventeen. You kept telling me not to leave and I didn't. I stayed here for you and helped you throughout your worst times and experiences. And how do I get rewarded? I'm forgotten about. You finally found someone who loves you for you and that made you forget about me." Sammy looked angry by now. He could never be angry at Apple, but how can he not right now after all of this? It was kind of weird to her, it was like she was angry at herself because Sammy was just a piece of her brain. “Look at you, already saying your ‘I love you’s and getting matching tattoos..” Apple saw his face glistening, was he crying? “Your parents didn’t even meet him yet!!” Sammy yelled. “What has gotten into you, Apple? What are you doing?!”
Apple’s hand moved up to wipe her own cheek, she didn’t realize she was crying too. “I.. um, I-I..” she stuttered. “Exactly! That’s all you’re good at!” he looked at her with frustration. “I.. I-I’m sorry, I didn’t m-mean to forget about you.. I’m so s-sorry..” Apple was full on crying by now. She knew this day was coming and she was stupid enough to get distracted and forget about everything.
“That’s it, Apple.” Sammy shook his head. “I’m not staying anymore.” he turned around, facing the window and started to dissolve through the air. Apple’s eyes widened. She didn’t want him to leave. At least not when he’s angry at her. Just when she was about to stop him, he was already gone. Apple fell to the floor, her tears streaking her face as she cried. The girl closed her eyes again like she did earlier and tried to bring him back, tried to remember what he looked like, but she simply couldn’t for some reason. That’s it, he was gone.
For all Apple knew, her life has just started to change.
