PET SAFETY REMINDER!! Hello AKK Family!! This is a very important reminder for the holidays because Alaskan Klee Kai are a flight risk, they have a strong prey drive and once they get loose in the street, there is a good chance you won't be able to catch a runner! Puppies are faster than you think! Pups can wriggle out of your grasp and run! Seriously consider getting a GPS collar for your pet, work on daily recall training, and secure windowscreens and doors that tend to unlatch on their own when the wind blows (use deadbolts). Check & secure your property fence (make sure it is dig-proof!). AKK-proof the gate latches. Never leave your dog unattended outside (coyotes, mountain lions, owls & dog thieves are brazen). Inform all your visitors (especially FAMILY) that AKK are escape artists, and to keep all gates & doors shut tight. Do not ask anyone to petsit for you unless they are TRAINED to handle an AKK!! If you're expecting visitors to your home, doors and gates will opening/ closing constantly, so keep your AKK securely crated or tethered to you.
