Life is indeed the biggest gift anyone can receive. With this seemingly irreversible chance to witness and experience God’s creations of life, people tend to pursue the things for their satisfaction and to feel that they actually made the most out his or her existence. In fact, psychological studies showed that the biggest fear of most people is to reach the verge of their lives but realized that they never truly lived. In other words, no one wanted a regretful life. It is probably one of the reasons why it was always been an endless search if what really are the most important things in this world.
However, this is a stinging misconception which already wasted a number of lives. There are people who worked hard all their lives to be powerful, influential and wealthy that they seem to have all the things other people wish for. They can have what they want in a snap of a finger and they can even control the world in their own hands.
Two of the most argued concepts of importance are love and money. For some, they think that money is mainly on the top of the list because it has the greatest contribution in dictating the flow of human society. Nowadays, almost every move costs a price. It is basically hard to look for free things in the generation we are facing today and money is an indispensable commodity to survive. It is a general thought that if money is present, the rest will just follow.
Try to look what happened to Marilyn Monroe, an American singer, model, and actress who became the most popular sex symbol of the 1950’s. Despite her fame, she ended up killing herself by barbiturate overdose and it was interpreted that the suicide was because she failed to find happiness as the Hollywood’s most famous and brightest star.
How about the Queen of the Nile Cleopatra who is the last reigning ruler of the Ptolemaic Egypt? She had the power others envy the most. Yet, she also committed suicide by allowing an Asp (Egyptian cobra) to bite her.
Historian explained that it was because Mark Antony, her beloved also committed suicide which made her to willingly follow his death.
That’s what people think of them. Yet,there is an underlying question others have often overlooked; Do they really have the power over the world? Or they made the world gained the power over them?
Another one is Alexander McQueen, a famous and wealthy British fashion designer who killed himself by hanging. He did it on the eve of his mother’s funeral whom he couldn’t bare separated with.
These people have an ubiquitous amount of wealthy, power and fame. They have everything they want but at the tip of all these material belongings, they still failed to have the essence of what they have. They had what they wanted, but didn’t have what they need.
What happened to those people are just a few of the proof that are actually enough to open our eyes to the reality hiding in our closed minds.
Yes, we have to accept the fact that humans will never be contented and will always ask for more. But the truth is, we have been longing for things that doesn’t really matter. We’ve been looking so far to the end of the rainbow just to see the pot of gold, when all this time, the priceless colors sprouting in the sky which is actually more beautiful and worth-looking is just before our very eyes. We are too amazed with the glitters which eventually blinded us to fully see what’s more important than just the external satisfaction. There is something more in this world that money can’t buy. There are things that power can’t control. There are those which can make us rich deep within but sad to say, this things are the ones we neglect the most.
Majority of these things are actually free. We just have to seek that within ourselves. It’s something the mind can’t think of, but the heart can always feel. That four-letter word can’t buy you the things you need because those which are priceless are actually the most necessary.
On the first place, you are here in this planet because of love. Your parents were bonded with love and you were created. But most of all, God perceived you even before your parents did because He loved you. He is still loving you and He will love you endlessly. You were granted by the opportunity to experience this life because God loves you so much that he wants you to make use of his creations. There is no earthly thing that can satisfy you other that the love of Divinity. He even gave you the people who make part in your life and to make you feel his love even more.
That folks, is the word we call “LOVE”.
We are all but instruments of God’s love and our pursue for contentment will never be achieved unless we realize that.
Love is not just that tingling feeling in your tummy when you see your crush. It is not just the mere topic being presented in one of the teleserye you constantly watch. It is more than that. Love is the feeling of happiness for others’ happiness. Love is the contentment of sacrificing yourself for the betterment of the whole. Love is giving what you have without expecting something in return. Love is God and God is love. As you plant love in your heart and radiate it to the world, you are also carving Him in your soul and sharing that joy to everyone.
At the end of this life we have borrowed, the wealth and power we gained in this world will be left. All we can have as we lie down our coffin is the feeling that this life gave us.
Imagine yourself lying in the peak of your death, reminiscing the days you have spent in this world.
Would you be happy thinking you have people thanking that you left a billion of money, or rather you’ll be glad to know that you left a billion of people thanking for your existence?
What would be that feeling?
