personality:
beomseok is charming, not just in his looks, but also in the way he carries himself. despite being a talkative person, others tend to misinterpret his words and skew their perspective of what he is actually trying to convey, especially given he doesn’t typically sugarcoat things. he is a very confident individual, though he doesn’t come off as cocky. he is by no means a people pleaser, but enjoys catering to the happiness of those around him, and tends to read people’s moods easily. he often says if his friends and family are happy, then he is happy as well, often making big sacrifices behind the scenes in their favor. beomseok, at his core, is a doer/go-getter. he is constantly working on something, perfecting his craft, and strives for success. this type of mindset burns him out easily, and when it does, he ends up feeling helpless over not doing anything/not being able to contribute to anything.
general information:
trigger warning / content warning ― mentions family death, body mutilation (clips/shaves his wings), dysfunctional family
born to a human father and a familiar mother. the witch his mother was bound to passed away not too long after he was born. his mother’s witch was there when he was born, blessing him.
his father is a big skeptic and wrote off a lot of strange phenomena. when his mother’s witch passed away, she displayed symptoms of depression and hallucinations, often talking about the school, magic, witches, etc. from his father’s point of view, his mother was very mentally unstable and ill.
his mother used to tell him stories about her witch when she was still sane enough to, and would describe in detail her experience at the school, in and out. beomseok naturally displayed a heavy interest in the supernatural, mostly fixated on stories of reincarnation, magic, and other fantasy genres.
when beomseok displayed an “unhealthy” interest in the supernatural, his father scolded him, but also got into a heated argument with his mother. after that, all storybooks that contained anything related to the supernatural, witches, etc. were thrown out. his mother also spoke less and less about her time at the school.
at the age of five, beomseok began having strange dreams that centered around a city surrounded by water. his dreams would also showcase a very beautiful woman, whom he has since determined interest aligned with romance. he could draw the entire city, even the palace he was in, by memory, and it was outlined in great detail. when his mother saw the drawings, she encouraged him to seek out his spirit and let destiny guide him. although he didn’t understand it at the time, he realized she was talking about his animal.
the year he turned seven is when his mother tragically passed away. with the loss of her bond to her witch, she just couldn’t handle life. her mental eroded even faster with the mental damage his father contributed.
his father moved on pretty quickly to a new marriage, marrying someone who was eight years younger than him. beomseok felt strange having this new person as his mother – after all, she wasn’t his real mother. his stepmother is an incredibly sweet person, someone who always sought out his approval and was always on his side out of the goodness of her heart. she cared for him like he was her own flesh and blood.
strangely enough, after his mother’s death, his dreams of the strange water city continued night after night until it was the new norm. however, the day he turned sixteen, everything changed. he began having dreams of a school in the woods and even of a beautiful young lady, maybe a couple of years younger than himself, but it didn’t feel like his previous dreams. his other dreams often felt like memories, and these dreams felt… like destiny(?) at least that’s how he describes it.
in the same year, at age sixteen, he shifted on accident. most familiars describe their first shift as freeing or just right, but beomseok? it was a nightmare. he shifted after an argument with his father about his dreams, about the school, the girl, etc. he stormed off to collect his thoughts and shifted not too long after he heard his father leave the house. he was in such a state of shock and panic that he did what he could only think of in a time of fear, and that was to clip his wings.
as one can imagine, beomseok ran away from home without saying anything. he ran towards the feeling destiny kept showing him in his dreams until he reached the school, where he was eventually taken in by another familiar or a teacher.
he was eventually taught how to control his shifting, but cannot fly properly. in his human form, he has visible scars along his shoulder blades from where he had attempted to clip and shave off his wings.
beomseok tries not to shift too often, despite it helping him mentally here and there, because he is reminded he can’t fly. in his crow form, if in it for too long, he starts to feel uncomfortable and visibly upset with the fact that he cannot fly. this will often leave him in a bad mood when he shifts back into his human form, causing him to feel down.
despite all of this, he manages his life well and is even in a band. they are, ironically, called “take flight”. beomseok works as a songwriter as well as the frontman & guitarist for his band take flight.
the dreams that beomseok had when he was a child still occur pretty regularly – the ones about the city in the ocean. he doesn’t know it, but they are memories from a past life.
