Alice hesitantly took the holy water vials and placed them carefully in her purse so that they wouldn’t break. As she reached for her wallet, she asked again, “And you are absolutely sure that we give a donation as payment? We are not stealing, right?”
“I’d be very shocked if it’s not donations” Arthur admits, nodding his head firmly. He’s certain it’s donations, would be stunned and stumbling if it weren’t. But then if it’s not he can-- probably help clean or something-- Reach the hard places up in the arches of the roof and windows most likely.
He grimaces at the thought. If they got him to clean and there was another bat colony up there, he would have to find a safe way to move them. His eyes dart up for a moment, looking for any shift of brown or black-- any small sign.
“And if not-- I’ll just help with reparation and cleaning again”

“Already know Him.” Alice huffed and rolled her eyes. She fished in her purse for her wallet. “How much should we take and how much money should we leave behind? Also, should we take the salt as well?”
“Well--” he pauses for a moment, still almost warily staying back from the vials. Mentally calculating. “They’re about 8 grams per vial, or 8 millilitres for the holy water-- and we’d need...” he stops, counts up on his fingers. “Seven give or take”
As for the donation, he raises his hands up, fishing in his vest momentarily to produce his own wallet. Mentally calculating, and then frowning when he had the wrong currency on hand, having forgotten to change it back since their last international vacation turned case it would seem.
“Ack, well normally I think it’s what you can spare? Give freely.” he shoves his wallet back away, he really didn’t want to go through that trouble now. “I dunno, twenty?”

Alice gave him her standard annoyed look before she continued searching.
If the crucifixes are there, then maybe….Jackpot!
Near the crucifix station were vials or holy water and holy salt. “Found them!” she called to Arthur. “Wait, how do we pay for these if no one’s around?”
Arthur raises his hands, more placating for a moment at the look, before tilting his head. Not reaching for the vials at all for himself, instead almost-- leaning back from them.
“Oh-- just the donation box!” it is more a stand or stall than proper shop. And he’s almost certain he’s seen some people just take some of the bibles since the word of God is for all or something. “I mean, it’s not like it’s tagged, and honestly... you-- you don’t want to talk to one of the truth seekers”
He almost furtively looks around.
“We don’t need to hear their whole-- ‘may I interest you in god’ talk”

mysteriouslyhopefulstranger:
Alice scanned over the shop items. So far, she only saw trinkets and useless junk you’d find at any gift shop for tourists. “…If push comes to shove, would the rosaries work?” she asked him. Then something caught her eye. “Oh! Some crucifixes! I guess that could be a Plan B?”
“Possibly, rosary, crucifix. Take a lot of praying though!” Depending on the strength of this-- devil. “The power of the Christ Compels you!” he lets out an awkward and nervous half laugh, before coughing and looking away.

mysteriouslyhopefulstranger:
Alice decided to take his advice on the search and looked around.
…Nothing behind her…
She traveled down the aisle looking both ways.
“Seriously, who has a shop built into their-” She stopped. On her right side, further down the aisle, there was a small section indented from the wall. Lo and behold, there was a shop full of bookmarks, necklaces, rosaries, bibles, etc. “ …How?” She walked over to the shop to get a closer look. “Geez, this church is a sell out! Do they not get enough from offerings?”
“Pretty sure it’s for tourists actually.” Arthur shrugs looking over the array set up. Fingers almost tracing in the air, bible, necklaces, rosaries, muttering what’s more or less nonsense to himself as he goes over them.
Where’s the holy water, where’s the holy water?
“It’s all donation based if that... helps” he tilts his head back a bit, maybe they have to call over-- he grimaces before even finishing the thought.

Alice got the definition of conduit, but the rest of Arthur’s explanation just made her more confused. If she kept furrowing her brows in befuddlement, they might get stuck like that.
“Uhhhhhh….as far as energy goes, I know that I can read it. But only on ghosts or anything that doesn’t have some kind of ‘body.’ I can tell if they’re there, and what their intentions are. If a specter is being charming but has sinister motives, I can tell. And speaking of specters,…” she looked at the door, “is it going to stay just right outside forever?”
“Well, I don’t know then!” he shrugs, “If you’re not taking and retaining it within yourself and it’s all outside--” he grimaces at the reminder, hands momentarily sparking with energy and teeth gritting and grinding together.
He doesn’t want to think about the monster outside-- about-- he shakes his head.
“The shop should be-- somewhere here.” Surely just some holy water and a quick prayer or something would be enough right? The one worry is how he’ll react for himself. He mutters just barely under his breath his last thought at that, “Just hope I don’t get trapped here for another two nights, only need to do that once”

mysteriouslyhopefulstranger:
Alice took a deep breath. “Ok. Yes, I’m a medium, but I don’t know what you mean by having my energy activated. As far as I’m concerned, my abilities have always been ‘activated.’ That’s how I was able to sense you a little and the spirit outside. Also, what the hell’s a conduit?”
Arthur blinks, almost surprised that he got it, at least half right it would seem. But still his brows furrow and he brings his arm up with a small whir to press under his chin and think how to explain and answer her questions.
“Uhm, maybe?” he pauses, takes a deep breath and almost seems to shake himself loose before beaming at her. “Oh, a conduit’s easy! A conduit is the other side of the coin to a medium, unlike mediums conduits are more like-- like conductors. When they channel spirits they take energy from them! Absorb and keep it as well! They’re... stronger as well. But I’m not--”
He awkwardly coughs, clearing his throat and looking away for a moment as for the other thing. The power and the activation, he chews his lip trying to find the words.
“I don’t know what I mean by activated, I’m not-- familiar with everything. But it’s like a transfer from a socket to a plug and along the line. It’s why I wondered-- but not everyone who can do that is a conduit. It’s moving energy!” hell, he could do that. It was in his very nature. Energy. “Like the difference might be retention, you can-- move energy but-- are you channeling it?”
He knows he can clue in, but that feels-- odd to use his own energy powers like that. Not natural. Makes him wonder though.
Be My Date
mysteriouslyhopefulstranger:
…..Wait. Is this a reference to her being a medium? Needing a spirit’s energy to read it? Let’s see what he can conclude…
“So with that being said, what can you conclude about me?”
“...You got hurt badly once, but that’s...” that’s not what she’s asking. He takes another deep breath, closing his eyes, hands almost shaking as he tucks them away, pushing them into his vest pockets. “I... you’re-- Maybe a conduit, maybe a medium... one of those two?”
He offers it with a strained grin and a shrug. He couldn’t really say, and again there’s that itch. The want to reach out to the cloud and-- do something.
“I mean, clearly you can... use that energy when it’s activated right? Plugged in”
Late Night Wanderings Sentence Starters
“What are you doing out this late?”
“This part of town isn’t a good place to be at this time of night.”
“Now what’s a pretty thing like you doing in a place like this?”
“You do realize what time it is, right?”
“Where are you going at this hour?”
“The sun isn’t rising anytime soon, you know.”
“Do you know where I am?”
“The city looks different at night.”
“This street is very dark…”
“Why don’t you come stand in the light?”
“Are you lost?”
“I got turned around in the dark…”
“This isn’t the time to go wandering around.”
“Only fools and trouble come out to these parts at this hour.”
“Looking for trouble, are we?”
“A little late to be shopping.”
“Just coming back from the bar?”
“Think any of the pubs are still going to be open?”
“Trouble lurks around every shadowed corner.”
“Woah! I didn’t see you there!”
“Where did you come from?”
“What are you doing here?”
“A bold move to show your face here in the shadows of night.”
“Go home.”
“It isn’t safe here at this time of night.”
“You’re being watched.”
“What are you doing still up?”
“Looking for something?”
“I like walking when the streets are empty.”
“It’s dangerous to walk at night alone.”
“I know where I’m going.”
“The trees are kind of spooky…”
“Did you hear that howl?”
“Was…was that an owl…?”
“This path is scary at night…”
“The woods is no place a __ after dusk.”
“Oh you poor soul, wandering lost in the forest under the new moon…”
“You can’t see the stars from here…”
“This is the witching hour.”
“Dark beasts lurk here. Be cautious.”
“Stay on the road!”
“Talking a midnight stroll along the beach?”
“The ocean is so mysterious at night…”
“What brings you to the pier at this hour?”
“What dangers lurk in these dark waters, I wonder.”
“You’re going to get yourself lost one of these days.”

Three Questions
mysteriouslyhopefulstranger:
“….Uhhhhh….” The officer stared at the weird spectacle before him. Did the kid just….change?
Snitch’s eyes half glazed have shifted from green to purple, almost seeming to glow as they stare bleerily at the officer, still half chewing on the ‘pillow’ they’ve been given. Their skin slightly more of a sickly pallor, but aside those details, they seemed the same.
And as though sensing the officer’s confused interest, that purple in their eyes slowly recedes back to green.

Alice felt a buzz grow then recede in her head. Was that him?! It is him! What the hell is he?! What did he pick up?!
Then the frantic thoughts in her head were clouded with confusion from Arthur’s description. “Cloud? What….broken?? Socket?? Conductor?? What???” Her face scrunched up more and more with each question. “Ugh! You’ve gotta be scamming me right now! And very poorly, too!”
“Scam?” Arthur takes a deep breath, energy prickling under his skin, drawing himself back and away from her. “For what purpose could I--” he cuts himself off, shaking his head, trying to clear his train of thought, trying to find the words, something to make it clear.
If he could just explain. If he could just. His eyes are glowing faintly again in his franticness.
“I mean like, trauma is a cloud of black right? It kind of... clings?” he motions with an awkward gesture towards her. “And then your energy works like... like a socket or plug, needing another part to... to do it’s thing and conduct...”
Be My Date
mysteriouslyhopefulstranger:
Trauma…
She felt a smidge upset at that word. She hasn’t written anything about…that…on social media, but it can be found on a very old newspaper record, or from institutions. Can frauds even get info from institutions? Or hospital records?
“What strength are you-what the fuck happened to your eyes?!”
Arthur cringes at the loud demand. Closing his eyes and pushing the urge to transform and flee down. He can’t just race off, not here. That wouldn’t help. He bites his lip faintly before looking at her, eyes mostly back to normal, just with a slight tint.
“Supernatural incident...” he offers with a shrug, which is a horrible oversimplification. “Has... some side affects” putting it incredibly mildly, as he holds up his mechanical arm and wriggles the fingers.
He swallows for a moment, looking away, as for her cut off question. The strength thing.
“Strength to carry that cloud, you’re not... broken. And... I dunno, the kind of spark energy, like a wall socket or plug? Or maybe a conduit? Like a conductor!”
Be My Date
mysteriouslyhopefulstranger:
Almost instantly her suspicion went up. “Alright then. What else can you pick up from me?” She decided to test him. She hope that she could also recall anything that she might have put up on the internet that frauds could read off of.
“It’s... mostly fuzzy but-- trauma, kind of heavy, clouding you” but who doesn’t have that? His hands almost wring together slightly. “Red, and this kind of bleeding of strength, like a plug maybe? A switch? A socket?” he looks up, frowning and not entirely sure how to explain how he senses and sees it. He shrugs. “I’m... not sure what you want me to describe here”
It’s not like he can read too deeply into it. And he’s not going to dare reach out and follow that itch of grabbing at that metaphorical cloud and-- something. His eyes flicker for a moment with darting blue and green.
Be My Date
mysteriouslyhopefulstranger:
The WTF look softened a little into a minor shock. “….You can read my energy?” she asked.
“...A little” he admits that grin growing a bit more strained, before he draws back. Hands snapping to clasp together and looking down at the floor. “It’s weird isn’t it?” People don’t, they shouldn’t be able to read energy and feel-- practically see...
Be My Date
mysteriouslyhopefulstranger:
A case? Oh fuck, no. He’s a paranormal investigator. And a stupid one. Again with these fucking idiots!!
The last comment rewarded him with a WTF look. That could go two different ways. He’s either a creep, or her loud, red hair caught his attention first.
And he doesn’t really have to look to feel her gaze. A cringe folding his body and pulling at his face. Okay that, probably didn’t sound too good for him. As if his first impression hadn’t already been screwed but--
“I mean-- Well that’s...” he lets out a groan and finally looks back her way, a forced smile pulling at his face. “Your energy stuff!” he kind of flails his hands, not sure how to explain it beyond that. “It just... I dunno-- it’s why--”
Three Questions
mysteriouslyhopefulstranger:
The officer had to lean in to pick up on what they were saying. Just then, a female officer brought in a jacket. The officer near Snitch bunched up the jacket to give it some cushion and then put it under their head.
“Look up a Dr. Penelope, a therapist, I think?? She should have red hair and green eyes.” He told the female officer.
“Got it!” She turned on her walkie talkie to inquire the chief or anyone that was near a computer back at the station.
“Don’t worry, we’ll contact her. And a doctor is on the way.” The officer reassured the child.
Almost without thinking, when the ‘pillow’ is placed under them, Snitch half turns, managing to find some part of the material and without conscious thought starting to chew it. If it can fit in their mouth it’s fair game right? And the sensation clears their head just enough to try and focus though the pain and nausea. Maybe hunger is all it is?
At least it’s a distraction, something else to focus on.
