DILF (Dude, I Love Fiberglass)
context: typical 3d printers use FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) to extrude layers of filament on top of each other. This allows for them to be fast and cheap, but leaves a plane that the print is weak along. 3d prints tend to be very strong in two dimensions, with one weaker one where any shear forces can cause fractures.
I don't like making fragile things. I tend to treat them carefully, but I really hate the idea of just being able to trip over something and lose weeks of work- thus, reinforcement.
I usually use fiberglass strengthened with epoxy resin, and just build up the insides of my helmets and larger pieces of armor with these. (Kinda like paper-maché). It leaves them with the original structure (weak in one dimension; strong in two), bonded to another structure (medium strength in all dimensions), and tends to make the end product a lot stronger (evidence: I can stand on my clone trooper helmet and it doesn't break- i am not small)

So, I'm making a full cosplay for the first time. I've made helmets (too many) and scattered pieces of armor, but nothing major.
And I decided I wanted my first Big Project to come with a fun story! and yes this oc is a self insert and yes i will be writing fanfic, deal.
So! The character concept (Halo/ Star Wars crossover):
- Cal-141, Spartan-II (He/Him)
Backstory/ Premise:
On a mission to capture a Forerunner installation on a desolate moon, Cal loses his fireteam to a Covenant ambush. Retreating into the central structure, he's forced to shrink further and further towards the subject of his mission: a room, apparently empty, that appears to be outputting a random/untranslatable signal.
As the Covenant draw closer, he's forced to take shelter in the empty room- only to cross the threshold into an entirely different universe. Swept up in the midst of the Clone Wars, Cal must balance his desire to get home with his wish to help his new friends and allies.
I can't draw for nothin but here's my best shot at a general picture:

i think ppl would be a lot happier and better-adjusted on here if they realized that being online on a website is like being in any other casual public space full of people. if u walk into walmart u dont immediately think to yourself “i have to be friends with everyone in this walmart and if not everyone likes me i’m a failure” and u really shouldn’t feel that way online either. likewise if there’s a guy in the walmart parking lot shouting obscenities u probably wouldn’t answer him and that’s literally an exact equivalent to some of the weird stuff that people on here seem to feel they’re obligated to respond to.
