The approach of her hand upon his cheek was like a ember touching his skin. It would forever burn as he would never be warm again himself. His shoulders, gently rising in the sheer surprise of her touch, her words still lingering in his mind as she came forward, pressing her lips gently to his. He didn’t think she’d be the one to do it, or to even take this move. He knew he could and he knew very well it would be impossible for him to break it.
Her lips moved away from his gently but it only took him seconds to respond back. This time, he answered with more, he craved more because he cared for her so much that sometimes he thought he’d die all over again, that his heart would beat just to stop once more for her. His kiss was rougher, more needy than the one she’d started off with, maybe he was even taking it too far, but it didn’t take long before he’d pulled her on to his lap. He cared for her, she cared for him - Didn’t that mean that right now the world was in their palm? If life was as fragile as it had been, why couldn’t they live? Why couldn’t this small moment of bliss, last for an eternity?
Milan didn’t know how, but somehow he was able to stop himself. The kiss gently faded and his forehead was again, against hers. One of his hands on her waist, the other on her neck. A small chuckle escaped and he searched her eyes gently. “You surprised me.” He inhaled the smell of them, knowing very well that a wolf and a vampire rarely ended up in these situations. Weren’t they mortal enemies? The kind which wasn’t supposed to go together, yet they fit like nothing else? The emotions, the fire, it seemed like it could never burn out. “I’m sorry if I got a little excited…”
Serena couldn’t explain why she had done what she had. There was no logic in it and she certainly hadn’t put any thought into it. The only thing that had come over her mind had been the relief at seeing him whole and safe. Worry had been eating her up for days that the weight finally taken off her shoulders had made her giddy and light. Suddenly she had captured his lips in a kiss that took her mind a moment to catch up with.
In the fraction of a second it took for him to pull away reality came crashing down on Serena. She shouldn’t have done such a thing. It was too fast and too sudden. This undeniable pull towards him was opening like a flood gate, compelled forward by the fear of losing him forever. Yet that was no excuse to completely forget herself and kiss him like that. Though they had just admitted their feelings for each other, regret ate Serena up. All of that doubt was completely wiped away when he pulled her in for a deeper rougher and needier kiss. She moaned gently against his lips as swift hands moved her to his lap. Tone legs settled around his own and her hands wrapped around his neck.
No thought existed in Serena’s mind when he responded like this except for how right it felt. Every thought of the war she was in and all the secrets she was hiding from Milan fell away. He cared for her and she cared for him. It was as simple as that. Her heated body pressed against his chilled one causing her to shiver. When he pulled away and ended it, Serena felt one fleeting moment of aching for more. Yet, he was right to do so. They remained close, folding into each other’s hold and for that she was grateful. “You surprised me.” She laughed softly and lifted one hand to gently trace over his jawline. “Don’t apologize for that. I thought you would think I was crazy for kissing you in the first place. I don’t know what came over me.” The contrast of their temperatures was the prevailing difference, but she did not mind their species. She had never been with a vampire, but that did not mean it was wrong in her eyes. She simply craved him completely.
