We are appalled by President Trump’s tweets about banning transgender people from military service. There are an estimated 15,000 transgender people already working in the Department of Defense, putting their lives on the line to protect our nation and its values. Those values do not include the heartlessness exhibited by Mr. Trump this morning. Discrimination has no place in our government, in our workplaces, our schools, or anywhere else in our lives.

While it’s still unclear what the actual policy ramifications of these tweets will be, we recommend keeping up with (and, if you can, donating to) the ACLU and the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund. 

You can also directly tell the president how unacceptable his attack on American servicepersons is by using this form provided by the @transgenderfreedomproject.

We know there will be plenty of conversation about this on Tumblr in the coming days, and we urge you to take this moment to support and educate each other in whatever ways you can. Polonius’s advice to Laertes – especially “to thine own self be true” – isn’t presented as inherently bad. The irony is that he’s a hypocrite, not that he’s speaking nonsense.

YES EXACTLY. That’s, like, the POINT of Polonius–he’s not stupid, but he’s a conniving hypocrite who doesn’t follow any of his own advice.

(I’ve also always thought that Polonius, or rather his actor, is the real hinge of the play (and not just because P was one of my first Shakespearean roles). How Polonius comes across hugely affects how the audience sees Hamlet. If he’s played as a doddering fool, Hamlet looks paranoid and unhinged. If he’s played as Obviously Evil (like in the Branagh film), everything Hamlet does looks reasonable and justified. My fave portrayal is Ian Holm: controlling jerk asshole, but also goofy enough to look almost, but not quite, harmless. Maintain that ambiguity!)
