Tom Delonge is no longer in Blink-182.
When doors opened at the Orange County Fairgrounds on Sunday, Blink-182 fans were lined up to stream into the Hangar at the 8th Annual Musink Tattoo Convention and Music Festival. This show was totally sold out holding the record for the most tickets sold for Musink.
In this general admission show, bodies were squeezed tight against the safety barrier with some being overcome by anxiety or excitement asking to be pulled from the crowd by security that caused ranks to close resulting in more younglings being pulled from the crowd.
Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio replaced the dearly departed Delonge. You could see folks in sartorial splendor sporting shirts that stated, “Who the Fuck is Matt Skiba?” created and peddled under Travis Barker’s clothing line Famous Stars and Straps.
With warm up gigs in LA and San Diego, the new 2.0 version of Blink-182 pleased even the die-hard fans, some coming as far as the land of Evita and Pinochet.
Blink-182 performed the hits including “What’s My Age Again?,” “All the Small Things,” and “Man Overboard” just to name a few.
Matt Skiba pinch-hit for all of Delonge’s duties that freed Mark Hoppus to work the crowd and serve as the ringleader for the night. Travis Barker was behind the kit for the second time on Sunday hitting the skins for YelaWolf using a different drum kit.
Technically a lead vocalist was not needed.
Since the sing-along by the Blink-182 devotees overwhelmed the singing coming from the stage this happens when you have thousands singing with the band.
The night concluded with a three-song finale, “Violence,” “Dammit,” and “Family Reunion,” literally ending in a boom with confetti canon fodder.
