Hi everybody, would you please correct this essay for me? many thanks
Many criminals re-offend after they have been punished. Why do some people continue to commit crimes after they have been punished, and what measures can be taken to tackle this problem?
No one can deny that some rules are essential for living in any modern society, including criminal low. However, it is widely accepted that these rules can not always deter criminals from re-offending their crime. (or doing their crime again?). The most important causes of this problem will be analyzed and the ideal solutions of it will be mentioned.
Several factors have contributed to the problem of repeating the crimes by offender. As far as sociological standpoints are concerned, the most significant factors are poverty, unemployment and lack of education. Most of these people, not only don’t have high academic degree, but also they don’t have technical skill to start their own career. Furthermore not having a right background even makes the situation worse. Companies do not tend to employ such people so they have no other way of making a living except committing a crime. Another contributing factor is that mixing with other offender can influences them negatively. For example, a person who is guilty of petty crime like shoplifting can learn serious crimes which through them he can earn much money.Â
There are several practical ways to tackle this problem. When dealing with unemployment of offenders after releasing from prison, the easiest way to solve it out would be that the prisoner should be taught new skills in prison that help them to start their own job. The offenders should learn works that help the community rather than just keeping them in prison. The prison services should try to rehabilitate prisoners so that they can lead normal lives when they leave prison and most probably they may not re-offend when they are released from prison.
Beside this, a second plus point could be that the offenders with different background should be kept separately in prison. This is undoubtedly favorable because the people with serious crime can not have a negative effect on the first-time offenders. The fresh offenders can not be imprisoned but can be placed under supervision for a set period of time to ensure their good behavior. Moreover, if the offence is less serious, it would be better to let off the offender with a caution.
Putting everything in a nutshell, the point to be made is that, regarding the various impacts of the prison system on the society and the future of prisoners, this point should be considered that the way of punishment should fit the crime. I firmly hold the idea that, probation is a good way to reduce prison overcrowding, but it must be done by expert supervisors. I hope the government intervenes to resolve the situation.
