Painting an Eagle 🦅Summer Sky
I created this painting of an eagle in flight for a client. I rarely paint birds and landscapes but I truly enjoyed doing this painting and I wanted to share the process with you.
The funny part is that my client wanted a bigger eagle so I redid the painting and it turned out entirely different then this one. She ask for a bolder painting so I did an orange background. She love it but I personally prefer the ocean scenery and the smaller eagle.
I might add this painting in my
Pause and Pain
t portfolio for workshops but I am not sure yet. I think that if you are a beginner and never painted before I would recommend starting with the simple silhouette. Here are some easy steps for you:
Trace your eagle. Enlarge the print size according to the size of your canvas. I recommend a smaller canvas like 9 X 14 for example.
Paint the entire background a light blue. Mix a little blue in a lot of white!
Use about 10 drops of water in your paint for transparency. You can always add texture once your entire background is covered.
If you want to use a palette knife for clouds, add paint to knife (no water) and hold the palette knife 45 degrees as you drag it across the canvas. You can make your clouds going horizontally across or add an angle and tilt the knife and go across in light touches.
Practice this a lot. You will eventually discover "your" technique. The most important part is to have fun so that you continue to enjoy painting!
I hope you enjoy my tutorial and please share and subscribe!! A thumbs up always makes me smile ;-)
Thank you for watching!

Using Oil Pastel Journaling Page - Praise and Worship
Hello friends, As I was filming this art journaling session, I started to experience bad stomach cramps about half way through. I drank tea, had a little Perrier lemon, nothing worked. I thought I was going to have to stop the session. I continued because my friend Hope was with me and also I was almost done with my journal page and I wanted to finish it. Just as I started to write my Bible verse with a paint pen (see it at 12:50) I noticed that the pastel was not working under the acrylic paint pen and it looked awful! I had 2 choices. Stop the recording or fix the area I didn't like. I quickly grabbed a black pastel and and started to cover my pretty rainbow with it. My friend Hope looked at my artwork with surprise and said "what happened?" I told her I was fixing something I didn't like and she encouraged me saying to me what I always tell her when the situation is reverse: "There's nothing you can't fix with a little paint"...or in this case "black pastel". I was happy with how my journal page turned out and I am glad I didn't stop when things looked bad. Below are a few tips how to fix oil pastel mishaps. I'm glad I didn't give up when this journaling page was not turning out the way I anticipated. We often abandon projects, goals and dream too quickly. The filming of this video became a life lesson for me. I hope you enjoy it as well. Here's the free printable stencil to create your own journal page. https://pauseandpaint.com/praise-sten... Bonus: 5 Tips When Things Go Wrong With Oil Pastels Tip #1 - When you make a mistake, stay calm and see if you can erase it with a wipe. Often the colors will get really light and you can just wipe the mistake, wait 5 minutes so it's dry and add your oil pastel over it.
Tip #2 - If the pastels doesn't cooperate even when trying to erase or blend it, use a darker pastel color to cover the area you don't like and blend well to get a smooth finish. Add a coat of varnish over the dark oil pastel so that you can play with other medium over it. Paint pens are great to add details. You can also decide to soften the dark area with new brighter colors.
Tip #3 - Add swirls, stars or designs over the darker areas to create a brighter feel to it. Adding details with metallic paint is always a win. Tip #4 - Have fun with the new direction your art is taking. Go along with the changes and be curious of what the outcome will be! Tip # 5 - Continue to add layers on the blended pastels. This will deepen your page and create cool color transitions. Embrace what you create. If you need to, take a break, have some tea and come back to your artwork when you feel relaxed. Extra Tip - Add glitter paint to your coloring page! Make it shine a little. You'll love it. SUPPLY LIST https://kit.com/PauseandPaint/lord-he...
