Slightly Too Small by: artisticallyworded
Sometimes I dream,
And I see a small house.
With your open fields rolling,
Pool swishing in the wind.
A rose bush with a swing on the porch.
Sometimes I hear the ring of a bell,
A child's giggle and footsteps,
Or a dogs small claws skitter,
Both pitter patter on wood floors.
It depends on the day.
I see our diplomas on a framed wall,
A dresser, with jewellery and pictures,
A room so intertwined, blurry
The difference of mine and yours,
Ours.
I imagine falling into a bed,
Slightly too big, slightly too cold.
Waking up, our bed thats now warm
A bright beautiful face on your pillow,
I'll hog the blankets.
Now, the house is my apartment.
Theres a patio with herbs and flowers,
Apartments cover the field once here.
The children play on the bike paths,
Slightly too small for a porch swing.
The wind chimes ring in the air.
The fish swims on the coffee table,
The house is slightly small, cozy,
Silent with one, even lonely maybe.
It depends on the day.
Posters line cream colored walls,
Constellations dance the ceilings
My earrings, homework, my drawings.
This space has no other owners.
Slightly small and dutifully only mine.
I fall into bed, with soft memories
Slightly too small, its only mine.
And I wake, curled up with your gift.
Only one pillow, the blankets are mine.
I'll roll over, and dream of what may be.
Small house on a field.
Big enough for it to be ours.
For now, the beds slightly smaller,
Too small to be anything but mine.
It is still patient,
Still dreaming,
But for now, its just mine.
