The Green Cathedral (De Groene Kathedraal)

Una nueva ciudad necesita una catedral, pensó Marinus Boezem. El artista ve la catedral gótica como la culminación de "un espacio estructurado por el ingenio humano", comparable a la construcción de los pólderes de Flevoland al pie del antiguo Zuiderzee. Por este motivo, según el mapa de la catedral de Reims, en 1987 se plantaron aquí 178 álamos en el joven suelo del pólder. La Catedral Verde de Almere no tiene techo, ni vidrieras ni paredes. La lluvia cae libremente sobre el suelo de la iglesia, el viento sopla entre las columnas de los árboles y hace crujir las hojas. Tu mirada se mueve continuamente hacia arriba y hacia abajo; a los esbeltos árboles que se elevan hacia el cielo en lugar de contrafuertes y columnas; hasta los círculos de conchas alrededor de los troncos de los árboles que hacen referencia al mar que solía embravecer aquí.
