Back when I was in the union negotiating salaries (we had just started it up, there had been no organized union before), the first thing I did was asking everybody at the (smallish) company if it was okay to make their wage public. Everybody but one person agreed, and we put up a note with them in the lunch room. That way all the bullshit stopped, everybody could see what everybody else was making, and surprisingly a lot of people agreed that certain key workers were severely underpaid compared to others. It gave us solid ground to stand on to try to get their salaries up.

Secrecy only serves to fuel rumors and shit talking. The only one that wins is the company.

As a side note, this is true for everything. The people in power want people without power to fight each other, and not them.
