[Avi can be seen far off in the backyard, tugging a wheelbarrow behind herself. Various rods and colorful boxes were sticking out the sides, and she was decked out in a full red, white, and blue outfit. Someone is feeling American today!]

[Galen takes a peek out the back door and grins when he sees her. Clearly someone's feeling festive.]

I'll be out in a minute, dear. Just let me find my hat first.

Alrighty! Oh, and bring a lighter with you! By the time we finish it’ll be time to light’em up! They’ll see our freedom from space!

[Galen comes out a couple minutes later wearing a wide-brimmed hat. He has the grill lighter with him.]

So where are we setting up?

[Avi pointed to where she pulled the wheelbarrow, which was a couple dozen feet from the house. A plywood platform about to Galen’s waist had been planted into the ground near it, and ear protection had placed on top with some long fuses.]

‘Bout over there! I wanna prep the fireworks before the sun goes down so they’re easier to light when it’s dark. We’ll set em on the plywood, light ‘em, and duck behind the wheelbarrow. Real redneck type deal!

Pffft. I think I'll grab the hose, just in case. Hand me one of those boxes, would you?

[Avi hands him over a box of Saturn rockets. There’s about four containers of them inside, and Avi bought three boxes. That’s not even counting the mortars or sparklers. She had gone all out]

[Galen opens the box and starts setting up the rockets, attaching the long fuses as each one is positioned on the platform. Rob comes out a few minutes later to see what they're up to. The house is far too quiet for the pair of them not to be causing mischief.]

[Avi pulls out some pvc pipes from the wheelbarrow, and starts shoving them in the ground around the platform. These are going to be the redneck cannons.]

Oh, hey Pater! What’dya think of my firework show? I think it’s gonna be awesome!

I think I'm going to double-check everything before you two set the yard on fire.

[Avi tears open a box of mortars and begins to unravel the tails on each, shoving them into the pvc pipes.]

[Rob just smirks at her and comes over to help. Galen shoves another box into his hands for him to open while he helps Avi with setting up the rest of the fireworks.]

[Avi pulls out canisters of sparklers, setting them in the middle of the Saturn rockets. She pulls a long fuse line out from the wheelbarrow and starts tying it to all the fireworks. They’re about halfway done with setup.]

Goodness, just how many of these did you get?

Enough to see it from space! I wasn’t joking when I said that. But we’re nearly done now! I just gotta prep the sky rockets.

[Avi begins the final inspections of the fireworks, checking for duds and cutting open any that were still sealed. She smiled like a madwoman, looking over each and every one as if it were gold straight from Fort Knox. To say her excitement was palpable is a major understatement.]

[Rob helps her to double check that everything is in working order. Galen walks back to the house to grab the hose.]

Ain’t it beautiful, Pater? Enough firepower to blow a frontline wide open, but we get the privilege of using it to bring joy instead. Absolutely wonderful!

Dad? Pater? Are y’all here?! Ma and Pa changed back last night, so Ben gave me the all clear to come and see y’all! What the hell did that metal nuisance do to you?!

Just fused us together. Not a terrible experience, all things considered, but it did completely remove any and all inhibitions.

Hope she likes how I remodeled her work shop!

Wait, that’s why y’all sounded weird? I thought she had given y’all a horrible sickness! Really, I wish I was there to see your handiwork, I would’ve had so fun watching you two go. Why weren’t you just honest with me from the start? It’s not a great situation, absolutely, and I can understand mental side effects from her nonsense, but knowing would’ve been better than pulling my hair out worrying.
