As much as Michelle wanted to make sure Peter was okay, she turned away when they slipped the suit off him. It just felt like the right thing to do. She caught a glimpse at Peterâs muscle and had a thought that would have been amusing if he wasnât fighting for his life: she always wondered why he was suddenly wearing baggy sweaters that made him look small. So much about Peter was starting to make sense. In her concern, she voiced too much information. âWhat happened this summer?â she asked, knowing full well that was when this all started.
âTo peter? It happened.. 7 months ago? Yeah. The kid got bit by an experimental spider. His senses. He can hear everything. Feel everything. He eats only stawberries, milk and cheese. Not as complex of flavors. He can climb on walls. And his reflexes. Perfect.â He explained. âAnd his build isnât just teenage hormones.â He took a bite of a pear and looked over at her. âSo there you go. I said everything so you donât ask more questions.â
âExperimental spider?â she asked finally, freaked out by Tonyâs casual tone. âIs this what your life is like just pretending crazy things are normal?â She sighed out, realizing she was getting an attitude. Swallowing, she tried again at an even tone, looking at him briefly and reminding herself that she had to stay calm. âThose arenât even all of my questions. Is he going to be okay? Does his aunt know?â Well, she could answer that for herself: of course May didnât know. âWho gave him the clearance to do any of this? Heâs just a kid.â She just couldnât imagine Peter having had to keep this to himself.
âTrust me. He wants to do this.â He looked at her. âI know what itâs like for someone to not believe in something you really wanna do. Iâm helping him because I want him to be better. He has his reasons and so do iâ He looked away then pointed at him. âAnd do me a favor and donât tell anyone. Because heâs fought some people that would love to slit his throat.â He said slower and more seriously.
In the back of her mind, Michelle knew he was right. She was a good judge of character, and from what she could tell Tony was telling the full truth. âIâm not going to tell anyone,â she promised in something much more sincere than her usual tone. She felt like she was finally getting back to being herself. Taking another look at Peter, she couldnât really tear her eyes off him anymore. She couldnât imagine what sheâd do if anything happened to him, knowing what she knows now. âI just need him to be okay.â
âHe. He will be fine.â He looked at the kid with her. âHeâs a good kid.â He stepped out of the suit and stepped into the lab. They were cleaning his wounds and beginning to bandage him. They gently wrapped a bandage around his mid section. They spritzed cold water on him and tried to heal him externally. Peter was out of it. For sure.
Michelle spent the long silence planning exactly what she would say to Peter when he woke up. She rehearsed scenarios in her head trying to brace herself for it. Yet when she saw him finally open his eye a few hours later, she was too shocked to really remember what sheâd practiced.
âSo youâre alive, then,â she chimed, getting up to come closer. She was relieved honestly, and she wasnât doing a good job hiding it. She refused to say it, though. âIron Man told me all about your snazzy internship.â It was a lie for the most part, Tony barely gave her the surface details. She just needed something to say.
âWha-â He looked down at his body. âShit where am i?â His body scared him. He looked at Michelle and his look softened. The bots gave his an anesthetic. He was a little out of it. âI need to go. Go.. go fight.. fight baddies.â He tried to get up. And fell because his legs were numb.
âOh-Okay,â she called as he stumbled to the ground. Immediately reaching for him, she tried to get a grip on his arm to help him back on his feet. Michelle didnât want to be aware of just how little clothes Peter was wearing but as she helped him up off the floor, she did her very best to keep her balance while also looking in the opposite direction. âYouâre not fighting anyone. Just take a minute, okay?âŠ.Wait, first of all, whatâs your name?â She wasnât so sure he had a concussion but it didnât hurt to try.
âSpiderman!â He put his ring and middle finger to his palm and was confused when nothing came out. âWhereâs my suit?â He looked at mj. âIâm..â He touched his face. âYou know my identity? OH NO!â He looked around.
Michelle couldnât help the quiet giggle that just barely made it out of her. Trying wipe the grin off her face, she was enjoying this more than she should have. Peter was a dork and Michelle was still so shaken that she felt the way she did. âOh Peter,â she sighed out. âWeâre in, um, Iron ManâsâŠplace? Maybe sit down for a second? You told me who you were a few hours ago.â Well, in a way, but she was surprised he didnât remember.
He sat down. And if his legs worked heâd be swinging them. âDid I tell us bout my feelings too?â He asked casually. âIâve been meaning to tell you that I loooooooooove you.â He giggled like a toddler and looked around. âWhat else can I do?â
Michelle had literally never wanted to die more than she did in that moment. Did he mean it? Oh she was too excited by the thought. âSure you do, tiger.â On the outside she only smiled a bit, knowing better than to hope. Though she knew he didnât mean it, it was so good to hear him say it. She just laughed it off. âHow are you feeling?â
He looked at her and furrowed his brows. âI love you.â He stated again. Drunk peter told the truth. He started feeling his legs and he tried to stand up again. He could walk a little. He grabbed her hand and faced her. Smiling like a goof.
Michelle was doing her best not to give herself away. The risk that Peter would take this all back when the meds wore off was too great. Still, her heartbeat spoke for her. This was possibly one of the best moments of her life, seeing him tell her he loves her. Even if it wasnât real. She was ready to warn him again saying things he didnât mean when she saw the sweet grin on his face. It was a slip up: âI love you too, Peter.â
He talked in a normal non buzzed voice. âReally?â He backed up. And ran into the table behind him. âThis is awesome.â He ran his hands through is hair. âI probably look terrible right now..â
At first, Michelle couldnât believe the words coming out of her mouth but Peterâs reaction was so pleasing. Refusing to let the moment spin her into blushing, she was actually very distracted by his comments about how he looked. âYeah, um, just a thought. You might want to consider putting some clothes on.â

"I'm not going to tell anyone," she promised in something much more sincere than her usual tone. She felt like she was finally getting back to being herself. Taking another look at Peter, she couldn't really tear her eyes off him anymore. She couldn't imagine what she'd do if anything happened to him, knowing what she knows now. "I just need him to be okay."

Are you throwing rocks at my window?
The doorbell wasnât working. Michelle had never felt so silly in her life. Knocking on the door, she could tell just how heavy the door was in how the sound of her rasps was swallowed in the metal.
Not wanting to come across as silly, she quietly crept her way around the house hoping to find someone in the backyard. Just when she was about to give up and call Liz, she realized she could see decorated walls from outside. That had to be Lizâs room. How Lizâs family could afford to have a house made of windows, she had no idea. The mere concept freaked her out.
Deciding to have a little fun with this, Michelle picked up small decorative pebbles off the planted bushes in her backyard and started aiming them at Lizâs window, waiting for her to see.
Soft music filled Lizâs room, accompanying the girl as she tidied her room up. She wanted her room to be presentable for when Michelle arrived. Her desk was cleared, and everything had been tucked away nicely.
Liz, as per usual, wanted to make a good impression. She always wanted to make a good impression on people, it was one of her main goals. She had also topped up on drinks and treats for the the pair.
Just as the girl grabbed her phone, she heard a bang from her window and dropped it instantly, luckily on to her bed. She walked hesitantly to her window and looked out, seeing Michelle in the yard. Liz waved before trying to signal for the girl to go to the backdoor before heading down herself.
On the fifth attempt, Michelle finally managed to get her aim right. The rock tapped at Lizâs window without making a mark. When Liz finally saw her, Michelle just waved as if she had done nothing out of the ordinary. Heading to the door, Michelle wasnât so sure she would be ready for anyone to ask about why she thought that was the best solution.
If she thought carefully about it, she wouldnât have a decent answer about it. There were plenty of ways to solve the issue. She could have kept knocking, she could have knocked on the back door. She could have called Liz.
When the door finally opened, she preemptively answered. âI read it in a book,â she said, grinning a bit. She was too amused with her own choice. âI donât think your doorbell is working,â she said as if it was a good enough excuse for her to be throwing pebbles. Really, who could mind? The entire situation was comical. âAnd I thought maybe you forgot we were studying together.â

Michelle wasnât going to handle anything without a hot cup of tea in her hands. About a mile away, a twenty-minute walk, Michelle found a hole in the wall tea shop with the window seat always open. Ordering her usual, recognized by the owner and greeted by name, she sat herself in the direction of the window.
Outside, she watched people pass and wondered what their lives were like. Unlike them, she lived in the world of the books she read. Her only thought when she surfaced was on her schoolwork or on a silly boy who wouldnât tell her the truth.
Opening her latest book, she took a breath to calm herself, deciding to push away the thoughts she had about that conversation. She needed peace in that moment. Turning as the waiter brought her her order, she smiled kindly at the familiar face before turning to the window and then to her book. In the shortest of seconds, she saw something that forced her to turn back up from her book. She saw a familiar blue and red suit a few meters up, dealing with something she couldnât see.
He was thrown out of the alleyway and slammed into a brick wall near the tea shop. All the way across the street. He ran back into the alleyway. Being thrown out once again but this time, he couldnât get up he just laid there while a vans tires squeaked and a man twice the size of the crime fighter. He came up and kicked peter in the chest in which he coughed. Tried to stand up. The man pushed him down.
Michelle didnât know what came over her but as Spider-Man slammed into the wall nearby, the entire tea shop stood and ran to the window to watch in fear. Everyone was trying to spot who he was battling. Michelle didnât get a look at the man, yet she felt this overwhelming need to get herself involved. Running across the street without checking for cars, she made it across the street just to see the man hit the hero again. She couldnât even help herself-Â âHEY, YOU LET HIM GO!â
He waved he off. âGET OUT OF HERE!â He managed to slip out. The man looked at her and peter got up and punched him with all his strength. Which is like⊠bend metal strong. Which sent him into a bike railing. He stayed there and peter collapsed. Coughing on the ground. He punched the wind out of peter. He gasped loudly. He kept wheezing.
What was that voice? Michelle had heard Spider-Man before and he didnât sound anything like that. Seeing him collapse to the ground, Michelle was immediately concerned. It wasnât that she knew anything about Spider-Man, she just knew what he meant to people. Something in her wasnât willing to let him sit here alone and be in pain. âHey!â she chimed, immediately crouching down to his side. That voice was so familiar she couldnât get it out of her head. âSpider-Man, are you okay?â She didnât even think of the risk of getting in the middle of things.
âShit..â He rolled on his side. He talked breathlessly. âIâm okay.. im..â He winced. And stood up. âAnd they got away too..â He layed on the ground and breathed heavily. âThat was scary, Michelle. You have no idea.â Name dropped.
Michelle was never one for breaking personal space, but she immediately took the heroâs side, a gentle hand on his shoulder. Turning back, she saw the man was missing. âDo you need help?â She wasnât sure she could get him to the hospital considering thatâd require exposing him. When she heard her name, she blinked at him before slowly backing away. âHow do you know my name?â she asked quietly.
He coughed and realized what he just did. âI.. dontâŠ?â He looked at her. His eyes moving in. To zoom in on her face. He didnât want to go to the hospital. Heâd usually walk into a diner and clean himself with ice water. These were no ice water wounds. He stood up . And looked away from her. He called tony. âHey Mr stark. I hate to bother you but i.. broke every bone in my body and I need help.â
Waiting for Peter to get off the phone, Michelle just stared at him in horror. Tony Stark? She was reminded of Peterâs internship, the one he referenced so much that sheâd never heard of from anyone else. Also, she couldnât imagine a good reason for Spider-Man to call Tony Stark âMr. Starkâ. She had to recognize his voice and she felt so stupid she hadnât figured it out earlier.
âParker,â she breathed out the next time they made eye contact.
âParker? Peter? Oh yeah. Heâs that kid that went on the stark retreat. A cool dude really.â He tried he really did. She couldnât figure it out. The Brooklyn accent was back and he leaned against the brick wall. âHeâs a nice kid.â
Michelle could tell he was still a terrible liar, even when keeping such a big secret. She couldnât fahtom how she missed all the sign. It made no sense and yet everything she had been wondering was coming together. âPeter,â she continued, her voice practically a whisper. âItâs you. Youâre Spider-Man.â She refused to faint but damn if it wasnât hard to breathe. This was so overwhelming she couldnât even stop staring at him, waiting for proof that she was wrong. She had to be wrong.
He scooted into the alleyway. And told her to follow him. He slowly pulled off the mask. âWould you keep it down?â He begged. He didnât want to lie to her anymore. His curls were loose and soft looking.
âOh my god,â she breathed out when he took off his mask. Michelle had never panicked before but she was pretty sure this was what it felt like. The fear in her expression was clear as day. âWhat are you doing? You can get hurt. You ARE hurt! Pe-â she stopped herself from saying his name. âWhat are you thinking?â
âPlease donât freak out. I..Iâm fine.â He coughed. But this time blood came out. âImâŠâ He collapsed just like that. He fainted. His body couldnât take the shock.
Michelle had reached to keep Peter standing up but she was too late. Sitting on the floor, she tried to wake him up but it didnât work. Petting his head, she waited for help in fear that this would be much more serious than it looked. Despite everything heâd been through, he still looked as though heâd just been run over by a car, not thrown into several buildings. What had she gotten herself into?
Hearing the red and gold suit approach, Michelle straightened up and stood to meet the man. âHe just passed out after he called you. He wonât wake up. I didnât know what to do.â
âGod. Its worse than what Friday told me.â He looked at the kid. â7 fractures sir.â Fridays voice chimed in. He gently pushed Michelle aside. âIâll take him from here.â He picked him up and turned around. Walking, almost ready to take off.
Michelle watched as he studied Peter, waiting for some indication that he was going to be okay. She couldnât imagine what sheâd do if something happened to him. As he started pushing her aside, she huffed. âYouâre not going without me. I need to know that heâs going to be okay.â
âSomeoneâs got a crush huh? Alright. Never thought peter had a girlfriend but.. hop on.â Tony offered as the suit offered some handles to hold onto. And a waistband that ensured safety. Tony let the face peice slide up as he looked at peter in the face. There was a cut on his lip and a busted up nose. All red with dried blood.
Michelle was not a fan of heights but that fear didnât stop her as she gripped the handles for dear life. As long as she kept her eyes on Peter, she wouldnât be afraid. As soon as they landed, she dusted her hands and looked around quickly before rushing after Tony. âNot a crush or a girlfriend, by the way. Peterâs just terrible at secrets. Is he going to be okay? He looks like shit.â She didnât mean to sound rude but she was afraid of her own feelings at the moment.
âHis condition is potentially lethal if not treated.â He was honest. He didnât want peter to die. Peter was like a son to him. âFriday get the healing bots ready.â He walked into tbe building. Rhodey walked in with a cookie in hand. About to take a bite when he paused. âThe kid? Idiot.â He turned around and went back to his room.
If he hadnât left, Michelle would have snapped at the man who just passed by. âSo if he is treated heâll be okay?â she asked, desperately for a real answer. Somewhere in the back of her mind she knew Tony couldnât possibly have all of the answers, yet she was here begging him to pretend he knew. âHe never should have been there. Arenât there people who handle this sort of thing?âÂ
âListen kid. There are. But peter wouldnât have wanted them to. Heâs got a heart of gold. And he doesnât like other people to fight his battles.â He placed peter on a table in the lab gently. The bots came over and began scanning him. The bots slipped the suit off of him and he was left in his boxers. He had muscle. Thatâs for suee.
