The Kalos Trip, Part 2
Now seeing how neither Squirt, Bulbetta, or Chip could actually fly, the red-headed pokemon trainer and her team had to go to Kalos the old-fashioned way; by plane.Â
The whole, non-stop trip was long and arduous. Twelve hours long and incredibly dull, to be precise. Pikafu spent the whole plane ride giddily scanning through her invitation, burning the image into memory. Squirt and Bulbetta sat closer to the window, although Squirt didnât quite enjoy the view. It was a lot farther from the ground than he expected.Â
âWhatâs so great about this place weâre going to?â the sassy Bulbesaur asked, fed up with Pikafuâs inhuman squealing and constant shaking. âIâve never even heard of this Chateau du Rat Love place.âÂ
âItâs called Chateau de Raton Laveur.â her trainer corrected her, grossly mispronouncing everything, âAnd neither have I, but I remember what G-Ma told me: If someone invites you to a party, you go. Itâs nice and thereâs usually free food.âÂ
âWait, did you say Chateau de Raton Laveur?â Squirt asked, strangely surprised with their destination. âIs that where weâre going?!âÂ
âNo, weâre going to Alola for a luau.â Bulbetta replied, a tad heavy-handed with the sarcasm.Â
The little Squirtle hasily dug through his small green knapsack, its contents rattling about loudly. Soon, he produced a magazine titled, Cerulean Weekly, a picture of Misty, the famous gym leader, on the cover. He quickly flipped through the pages before showing the duo a picture of a pictureqsue (which I believe may be intentional) chateau, a cross between a castle, a palace, and a mansion. Surrounding it were fountains, perfectly groomed gardens, and various statues.Â
âThis is where weâre going?!â Squirt repeated, dumbfounded that he was now just finding out, despite Pikafu having repeatedly mentioned that theyâre going to said Chateau de Raton Laveur.Â
âWhy? Pikafu curiously inquired, âWhat is it?â
âItâs only the Gym to go to!â Squirt explained, âWell, theyâre called Chateaus, thereâs six of them in Kalos, run by people called Nobles, theyâre sort of like prestigious Gyms. But this one of the big ones. They only do events and invite famous trainers, or those the gym leader believes has potential.â
As Squirt went on and on, explaining the history of the Chateaus, a small spark burst into life in Pikafu. A thought; a silly thought, really, came to the forefront of her mind. Sheâs just a regular pokemon trainer, living in a weird house in Kanto, why would a noble of Kalos take notice of her?Â
To her, this little adventure is now a lot more than free food.
âSo wait,â Bulbetta interjected, âThey donât have badges. They have shields?â
âItâs kinda like a fancy badge.â Squirt said, âBut they say that if you manage to earn the one from Raton Laveur, youâre instantly considered a celebrity.â
This is now her chance at stardom.Â
Meanwhile, in First ClassâŠ
âI canât believe weâre going to Lumiose City!â Chichi the Chikorita cheered, âCenter of fashion, home of celebrities, and the city of romance.â
âYeah, who woulda thought that Cy-â Toma began before being interrupted by Quill.Â
âIt wasnât that hard to guess the song!â the little Cyndaquil laughed, trying to drown out his Totodile friendâs remark. âWe Are The Sludge Wave by Koffing and the Toxics, featuring DJ Raifu.â
âWell, thanks to you, we get to spend the weekend there!â Chichi said.Â
âMaybe weâll meet some famous people there!â Toma laughed, amused by the idea.Â
Unbeknownst to them, in the seats behind them, Chip happily (or at least, I assume happily, itâs hard to tell when he doesnât exactly emote) spent the whole twelve hours listening to music and watching movies.Â

Ah, yes. Family road trips. Nothing quite like flying in a metal box with nothing but hundreds of feet of atmosphere beneath you. A truly heartwarming experience :)
