Hey, Mike. Those are some great suggestions, I appreciate those. Iāll build on that and see if there are any events happening in the surrounding towns. I wouldnāt mind going out of town, really, I havenāt been in quite a while. But, I donāt know if now is the best time sadly. Hopefully soon. It would be nice to get out of town for a little bit, I canāt remember the last time I had a legit vacation.
I hope you get a chance to go on a real vacation soon Dave.Ā Teachers definitely deserve to enjoy their breaks.Ā How are things going otherwise Dave?
askthefinnhudsonā:
Dude⦠youāre breaking my heart. Not being a fan of The Office is basically a crime in my casa. Never even seen Party of Five, whatās it about?
Sorry, Iāve tried several times without much luck.Ā I can watch an episode if its on and someone wants to watch it, but itās not my go to.Ā Party of Five is a show from the mid 90s-- although they tried a reboot in 2020.Ā But itās about a family of 5 kids that are orphaned.Ā And how the oldest takes over the family to keep the kids together, and the family business to support them, and all the trials and struggles they face.Ā Matthew Fox, Scott Wolf, Neve Campbell, Jennifer Love-Hewitt all were key characters.Ā My ex in college was into all things 90s and got me watching it.Ā Its still a bit of a comfort show for me I guess.
askingthejeffsterlingā:
I canāt say I blame you man, it sounds like you deserved to shut it off for a while. Iām always up for recommendations, send them my way. I like to say Iām a foodie who doesnāt know a whole lot of good places! You can say that again. Donāt get me wrong Iām grateful for my career and everything it brings butā¦There really is no place like home. Shit I know what you mean. I always thought I might end up here, but itās still a dream come true. Surreal might be a better word. How long have you been here? Iāll hold you to that, fair warning. Oh damn man, that sucks. Iām sorry to hear that, but it sounds like youāve got some stellar plans to make it up to yourself. Which beach, out of curiosity?
Yeah, thanks.Ā Alright, Iāll keep that in mind.Ā Ā I had Papaya salad with crispy spring rolls and crispy fried chicken dumplings. Ā And an order of godess garlic beef. Ā Which is basically just a beef stirfry with a garlic brown sauce. That is one of my faves. Is it hard being away fromĀ āhomeā so much?Ā Or do you just learn to bring and make parts of home with you?Ā Iāve been here six years now, medical school and then two years so far of my residency.Ā I am looking forward to it.Ā I think Iām going to head out to Corey Beach.Ā Iāve heard good things about it from some of my coworkers.Ā
ask-theblaineandersonā:
I was actually thinking about that, but I didnāt want to bring it up, just in case it was a sore topic, but Iām glad to see it wasnāt all that bad. From a critical moment in your life, it led you in a total different way, but Iāve always thought things happen for a reason, you know? I mean, I am sorry to hear that you couldnāt continue your dancing career and dreams, but Iām sure many people are happy youāre their doctor now! Thatās a good idea, man. Some people in this media can be⦠extreme sometimes.
More than a friend, like more-more than a friend? Is there something I donāt know? I feel so out of the loop after all this time!Ā
Donāt worry, dude. Iāll leave you a message and you can respond when you have a moment, and then we can have coffee, or even a drink, what do you think?
I wouldnāt go quite that far but there is no point in dwelling too much on things that canāt be changed.Ā At least I was inspired to do something else, and have the skills to do so.Ā That is the hope, yes!Ā Although at this point as a resident Iām just one of their doctors.Ā Yes, some people can be, I agree.Ā
No, not like youāre implying no.Ā But I mean sheās Tina.Ā She was my first real girlfriend.Ā We... we have a lot of history. Iād be sad if our relationship got to the point where she was just a friend.Ā Thatās just me.Ā Sorry you feel that way.Ā For my part-- I know I am very discrete.Ā Especially when it comes to some subjects.
That sounds great Blaine.Ā I look forward to it.Ā Itās always good to catch up.
If I ever need a tour guide, I know who to go to, dang. You've been all over. That must be really cool. I've always wondered what's out beyond all of these corn fields. I've never been on a road trip for so long, no. This one time I got to go with some friends to a waterpark in Toledo, Ohio but that's as far as I've gone. It was a hotel called the Kalahari and inside of some parts it's decorated like a mix between a safari and what people think Hawaii looks like when they don't live in Hawaii. There was only like one water slide, but it was still pretty tight to hang out all day in a rad ass looking swimming pool with palm trees made out of pool noodles everywhere.

Ha, Iāve never thought of it like that but yeah, I have tips for an epic roadtrip between Chicago to New York City, with Lima along the way.Ā Only one slide?Ā Did it have a lazy river or a wave pool?Ā Honestly, a pool day would be awesome right about now, am I right?
askthefinnhudsonā:ā
Dude how is that even a question? We all know the best way to go is to get a Pizza and watch The Office.
Really?Ā I actually ended up with Thai and Party of Five.Ā Unpopular opinion but Iām not a fan of The Office.
askingthejeffsterlingā:ā
Your plans for the evening sounded perfect, and I desperately hope you succeeded in going through with those plans. I havenāt had Thai food in forever, I might have to change that tonight. Iām working on getting out of where i am and back to NYC as soon as possible, so that has preoccupied a lot of my time this week. After that though, some vegging out sounds pretty incredible, i might need to take a page out of your book. Did you have a relaxing weekend?
After 32 hours straight at the hospital because of an emergency, yeah, it was exactly what this doctor ordered.Ā Oh yes, you should.Ā I can rec the place I got to the most, and even what I got the other night.Ā Super delish!Ā Oh man, there is no place like home right?Ā Crazy to think that New York City is home now, but it is.Ā Go right ahead, and take all the pages.Ā Someone should.Ā No, there wasnāt time for a relaxing weekend here.Ā I worked straight through and continue straight through until Thursday afternoon, then I get a 4 day weekend, which I had to swap some shifts for-- hence this long stretch for me. Iām pretty sure Iām headed to the beach, with a hammock, a book, and sunscreen.Ā
ask-theblaineandersonā:
I guess there are plenty of other things we thought weād be doing back when we were at high school, that are way different to what weāre doing now. But like I said, if itās something that fulfills you in a way that makes you love it, then thatās all that matters. Well⦠because I thought they would be looking for you to hurt you or something. You never know with some people!
Ooh⦠Thatās nice of her though. There are things that you just canāt forget, and she will always be a worried bunny. Thatās just one of the many things that makes her a special friend to someone.
Thatās okay, man! Iām sure thereāll be plenty of opportunities for us to meet. Maybe I should do like Tina, and show up at the hospital so we can have a coffee at the cafeteria. I mean, thatād be something, right?
More true words may never have been spoken Blaine.Ā To think I fought my father so hard on not following in his footsteps, not going into medicine, and instead following my passion for dance.Ā And now here we are. An unfortunate injury later, a bit of inspiration from the medical professionals that helped me, and Iām exactly where my father wanted me to be.Ā Sometimes I shake my head at it all.Ā Itās true, you never know with some people, but even if that was the case, it wouldnāt be something Iād put out publicly to people. Just...big no for me.Ā
Tina is the best.Ā And 95% of the time Iām glad she is so persistent at keeping the communication going, reaching out, tracking me down.Ā I might actually need that.Ā Sheās so much more than a friend, but youāre right, these are some of the qualities that make her the best kind of friend to have.
Yeah. Sure.Ā That would work too.Ā Take a page out of Tinaās book.
ask-theblaineandersonā:
If youāre a fallen-asleep threat, then thatās the best way to go, haha!
I suppose it doesnāt get any more busy than with Medical School, which sucks in many ways, but as long as youāre doing what you love to do, what drives you, itās all for good, right? Oh, pheew! I got scared for a moment there, and it is weird, now that you mention it. Maybe someone who was looking to thank you for taking care of them recently? Your mom just as intense as mine. When she doesnāt to get to hear from me for a couple of days, the message box on my phone gets filled with her complaining about that, although in my case, Iām more lazy than anything else. You on the other hand, you have a good, valid reason not to return a message at the instant.
I love it, man. I really do. Adults, yeah.- almost there. But still, itās being a wild, and awesome ride. I teach Music at the Performing Arts School there, and I often compose the music for many of the plays that we put on there. Haha, I know, that was vague, right? Itās called The Play Tone, and it on the East Village. I play every other weekend there. I got this weekend, then next Iām off. If you want to come by let me know, man. Iāll tell the manager to save you a good table there.
Yes, thatās true but... yeah.Ā No, it was a good choice.
Theyāre both busy, in their different ways.Ā Medial school was a lot of classes, a lot of studying.Ā Residency is a lot of time at the hospital.Ā Even when itās not busy, they keep you busy.Ā And then we have days where it all goes a little sideways and we get very busy.Ā This is true.Ā It might not be what I thought Iād be doing, but I feel inspired to do this now.Ā Scared?Ā Why?
Oh no!Ā I meant that friends will come find me at the hospital.Ā Like Tina, when she is in the city.Ā If she canāt get ahold of me, sheāll show up at the hospitalĀ looking for me.Ā Or sheāll call or stop by my parentsā house when sheās in Lima.Ā Which is fine, they love her.Ā My mom is generally pretty good, she remembers how it was when my father was going through this. But she likes to pass on the messages from others.Ā Ā
Ā Thatās great Blaine.Ā Iāll keep the name of the club in mind and Iāll let you know.Ā I usually end up working weekends, unless I book/trade days off.Ā Plus two of our shifts donāt really coincide with evening plans.Ā I am planning a 4 day weekend next weekend, but it sounds like youāre off. Maybe next time.Ā Ā
askthequinnfabrayā:
I donāt know anyone who has responded to being yelled at for someoneās number and it has gone well for them. But Iām sure itās happened for a small few.
Yikes. Have they been keeping you busy? Isnāt that what they typically have on call rooms for? Or is that just a TV show thing they throw in there? Iāve heard itās a thing but who knows. Iāve been doing okay, canāt complain too much. Keeping myself busy.
There are always exceptions right?
Yeah.Ā Summer tends to bring out some wild and weird needs for trips to the ER especially.Ā There are several on call rooms, but the senior doctors end to snag them-- itās a bit of a seniority thing.
Keeping busy is always a good thing.Ā What are you doing to keep busy?Ā Even if I donāt have a lot of time to myself, I love to hear what others are doing.
askthesebastiansmytheā:
Youāre right, you win.
Iām sure some people would agree with that. So how are those tv show recs going for you? I can add in audio books. I would not get nearly as much done if I didnāt have audio versions of some of the law books I have to look back on for case research. They make them for regular books too, I hear. From the sound of this conversation, we both need to find way more interesting lives.
Sure it would be great to have someone to come home to, or at least to see at the end of a long, hard day.Ā But the guilt that would come with the amount of time spent at work would be difficult to deal with.Ā Oh yeah, I had a couple of texts from med school that I got on a audio as well as a hard copy. Diagrams, and cutaways arenāt always easy to describe in audio format, but for the rest of the information, itās great.Ā I ended up falling back on an old favorite.Ā I got some movie recs, a couple of tv show recs, and a couple of you tube recs.Ā Ā
I donāt know if it says our lives are not interesting, or if weāre just currently in a very dedicated to our careers part of our lives.Ā I do wonder if Iād have more time, and perhaps more of a life if I was still dancing, instead of having gone to medical school.Ā Assuming I could have made it as a dancer, that is.Ā Itās hard to know sometimes.
ask-theblaineandersonā:
Oh, man.. You meant tv shows then? For me, it never hurts to have Friends on the background. I know that show by heart, so if I fall asleep, or doing some chores around my place, or simply chilling on the couch, it keeps me company.
Yeah, I know that feeling. To be that submerged in work, your life becomes the people you see at work. Donāt worry about it! I understand how adult life dragged us in different directions, and that time is not always we have a lot to spare; but hey, weāre here now, so itās cool we get to catch up! .. Why would anyone want to hunt you down??? Is that secret code for mobster or something?? Iām good, man. Iām a professor at NYU. Performing Arts. And I also have a job-ish, at a local club, a small one, where I get to play some of the songs I written and stuff⦠I mean, Iām busy most of the time, but I donāt complain. What about you?
I didnāt specify but I had a pretty good feeling I wasnāt going to be able to stay awake through a movie.Ā Not after the day(s) Iād had.Ā Yeah, I get that.Ā I was looking for something I maybe hadnāt seen before, but in the end I went with a comfortable favorite anyway.Ā Ā
Yeah, residency is life right now.Ā Iām hoping this last year of it will chill a little since there are other things that we have to tack onto it, but Iāll have to wait and see.Ā Oh!Ā I mean Iāve had people stop by the hospital looking for me, which seems weird, but itās happened.Ā Or people who know my parents well enough to call and ask about me so then I get a call or text from my mom that goes something likeĀ āoh I heard from so and so the other day Michael and they said they havenāt heard from you in ages, you donāt return calls, you donāt text and theyāre just worried.āĀ Itās a nice feeling people will go out of the way like that, but sometimes it canāt be helped if I take a while to be able to return a call or text.Ā It is probably easier to like show up at the hospital or my apartment or something.
Oh wow, a Professor.Ā Thatās really cool Blaine.Ā How do you feel teaching adults? What kinds of classes are you teaching?Ā Thatās great about the club too.Ā Where is it?Ā Local in New York City can be just about any of hundreds of clubs Iād imagine.Ā Not that Iām familiar with that scene.Ā Iāve barely gotten to explore the city at all despite the number of years Iāve been here.Ā
ask-theblaineandersonā:ā
How about Ace Ventura, 1 and 2? It doesnāt get any less thoughtful than that!
Howās it going, Mike? Itās been a while now since I last heard from you.
Hey Blaine!Ā Oh, yeah.Ā Iāll keep those in mind for when I have enough time to watch aĀ movie or two.Ā I barely made it through a 45 minute tv episode as it was.
Yeah itās been a while.Ā Itās all good though.Ā Just busy.Ā But thatās not always a bad thing.Ā And yes, sorry, Iām horrible about keeping in touch sometimes.Ā The people that tend to keep up with me are either people I work with, or ones that like to hunt me down.Ā How are you Blaine?Ā What are you up to now?
askfuturedavekarofskyā:
You know, it just really dawned on me how close summer school is to being over. This time next week my albeit shortened summer vacation will have officially begunā¦And I donāt have a single plan. Lima hasnāt ever been the most thrilling place, but if anyone has any suggestions I would be open to them..
@atfgstarters
Do you want to stay in Lima? I mean it's summer vacation. Why not take a road trip? There are a couple of day trips that you could do, or some longer ones where you might need to pack a bag for a couple of days. You could just drive and see where it takes you, or pick somewhere specific. Chicago is not that far and I can recommend all kinds of things there. Cleveland has the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. Take in a sporting event of some kind. Visit a local zoo... some of the animals are so adorable. Find an amusement park, check out any fairs or summer concerts....
